Should I leave my Rain SIM here in SA if I go to Mauritius or is their any chances of them having reasonable roaming in place beyond SA? I am taking my Vodacom SIM but purely just to receive SMS which is free.

Just get a local prepaid sim there for data

Already have a S8 with a local SIM that we are taking with. Staying at a friend's place and he goes there often, hence the phone. Was just curious if I should bother trying to fire up my Rain SIM that side.

Just go with local sim for data. Always works out cheaper. Roaming is madness, on any network.

I’m in Mauritius a lot for business. Roaming is suicide. Just get a My.t sim and data and you’re fine.

Don't think Rain has ANY form of roaming.

Got a local sim when I was there in July, on the Emtel network. Paid R40 for 1Gb of data. Our accommodation had free uncapped wifi anyway, so the mobile data was just for when we were out and about.

Update : Rain is forbidden on all networks here, so no roaming in place. Replaced it with Emtel 2.5gb unlimited for cheap. Vodacom has roaming on my.t which I only use for SMS roaming (free) so I can get OTPs.

I doubt Rain can roam on any network even local ones in SA.

Hope there's no way for there to be an accidental download.

Nope, I emailed VodaCom when I landed here because I realised my roaming was off. They replied shortly saying they only enabled SMS roaming and if I want data roaming I can request that but have to keep in mind the cost. All I wanted is SMS roaming, so no massive data bill for me.

I just got a prepaid when i was there in 2013, pretty cheap and it kept me on social media and whatsapp no problems.
