It is already available. You can order today if you are covered. You get sim option and router bundle option. with a compatible router - the sim only option will get you 100gb+100gb package for only R550. Keep in mind this is a fixed LTE deal so you are locked to a tower.

Rain has been doing this for a while, it started with Google services for me, then Netflix 4k/uhd died on my side, eventually I couldn't even stream youtube 1080p, then p2p, then I cancelled. They are more focused on 5G right now and have neglected anything 4G

Hi Guys, I would agree that Rains focus is on 5G but I would rather support a company like Rain which is focusing on upgrading their infrastructure to the latest technology than a company like Telkom which milks every cent out of its subscribers on outdated infrastructure and still refuses to upgrade their network.
That being said for R250 it is still a bargain for uncapped.

@Pixual: Just keep in mind that the Rain 220GB + 220GB package is in practice very similar to a 440GB anytime package since the off-peak and peak allocations can be used during office hours and the evening respectively. The nightsurfer data on the Pure LTE packages can only be used from midnight until 6AM which makes it a lot less useful for streaming and more suitable for download only purposes.

Telkom also reduced the prices of their LTE bundles at the beginning of November. The larger prepaid LTE bundles have a 61 day expiry which effectively reduces the monthly cost quite substantially as a larger bundle can now be consumed over two months in place of a monthly, smaller and more expensive bundle.

It should also be possible to transfer some of the Telkom data onto multiple SIMs via *180#. In the case of the prepaid bundles, the airtime can also be doubled through a Telkom More plan and used to make calls, SMSs or as additional data subject to certain restrictions.

So the MTN fixed wireless nighttime data is only valid between midnight and 6am. That's not very useful to me at all.

And now to add to my woes with Rain, I cannot connect to Adobe servers for downloading updates at all. It takes over an hour to download the helpdesks remote support app.

This must surely be a DNS issue. @AfriMan what is the procedure here? I have a ticket open on this that hasn't been answered now for days.

Torrents are shaped during the day then from 11 back to full speeds. Direct downloads are not throttled. I have no issue streaming youtibe in 4k everything is perfect maybe tower congestion at ur location?

Wha'ts the speed for that vs the speed for streaming?

I am retracting my statement there is a issue very slow today even opening up "http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/"

Torrents are shaped to 60kps but after 11 pm it opens up so the daily ISO Downloads happen in the morning.

YouTube improved a bit these past few days but Adobe.com is like I am surfing on dial-up. It's ridiculous. I tried to get Adobe's remote help to see if they could fix the issue but I couldn't even download the 6MB Bomdar file they use for remote control.

Is anybody else having issues even surfing to www.adobe.com on Rain? Afrihost have finally escalated this to Rain, so I will wait and see what they come back with. Probably tell me I'm talking rubbish given my past experiences...

It took me at least 30 seconds just to load the adobe.com home page a few minutes ago. When I tried earlier it was closer to one minute!

I have also been experiencing slow speeds, buffering on YouTube and poor performance over the last few weeks. I have already put in a cancellation request for my Rain Fixed LTE package for the end of November as I am hoping that the Pure LTE service from MTN will be cheaper and more reliable.

In your case the alternatives are not as attractive as the pricing on the large packages is not as good as that from Rain.

I can't load the full Adobe page at all. It just hangs, partially downloaded. Also can't seem to update any of my Creative Cloud apps, or even access my files on Creative Cloud.

I have tried changing the network speed of the router, alternating between 1800 and 2600 which usually forces me to a different tower, but that isn't helping at all. Still can't get no satisfaction from Adobe.

I will wait to hear what Afrihost report back about the escalation to Rain today. I suspect that this is some weirdness that has to do with DNS and Adobe. It's happened to me before when I was still using ADSL - couldn't connect to Adobe at all and when I tried to get their support they basically told me to change ISP.

So as mentioned by a few other people, I ended up installing a trial VPN (NordVPN) service on my phone to test. I did that just before 6PM. My torrent speeds went from 60KB/s to about 1.1MB/s

Still waiting on a reply from Afrihost. I'll follow up with them later today as they did say they need up to 48 hours to get a response from Rain.
