Got 25Mbps earlier today,
barely doing 2Mbps now.

They are clearly unshaping mybroadband's speedtest server as I constantly get above 15Mbps though my internet isn't usable.
Latency is 100ms higher than usual during peak times also

Worst ISP ever

Yup I agree people keep getting 50-100mbps and I don't know how, I keep getting 15mbps

signal good? no congestion? busy area?

ive often seen speeds fall, as it seems they shape as per demand, and trying to keep things fair,
ive set my torrents up, and let them run, not expecting miracles, when they finish, they finish. its good enough for me generally.

you want guaranteed speeds, get a fiber connection, cant or wont, stick it out with rain, its the best for this price point.

Is it a joke?

I've been using it for 4 months now and pretty damn impressed, to be honest. For R250 a month !

cant really ask for so much for R250 a month?

do the math, downloading 100GB on MTN prepaid? or for that matter contract?
how much will that cost you? something to the tune of a few thousands?

Upload: 4.44Mbps
(mobile)

Ping: 34ms
Download: 27.35Mbps
Upload: 7.81Mbps
(fixed LTE)

I am happy with speedtest but the shaping is annoying.

went from 50 mbps down and 10mbps up
to
1mbps down and 0.01mbps up

from last night to this morning

This is my normal. I'm lucky when I hit 10mb at 23:00. It's still beter than getting ADSL wich is only available in my area. Screenshot_2019-02-23-13-20-07-944_eu.vspeed.mybroadband.png

what are you complaining about?, you get what you pay for,
case in point, lets do the math,

pay your R250 for uncapped and its truly uncapped between the times stipulated, (with shaping, throttling)
use a timer on your router if you dont want to pay more and go right ahead and stream/torrent/download ect ect,

if your landlord thinks we still live in 1972 and Nixon is still in power:ROFL:, and wont/cant/dont belive in fibre.
best deal one has, I'd even say ONLY deal one realistically has,

otherwise, lets say over the month you download 400GB in total, of streaming/torrenting ect

on MTN prepaid, its 14K worth or airtime, (R3,499 X 4=R14,000 of airtime)
I'll let you do the math for the other providers, but its bound to be similar.

so one cant really complain, with a FUP that for an average downloader wont reach (1TB).
for R250 a month you cant complain that much, honestly.
yes speeds and congestion play a part obviously, but you get what you pay for.

yes, if you lucky to have fibre you can do loads more, but not everybody has that,
so be grateful for RAIN giving out this deal, its sometimes the best one can get.
especially if you still have a landlord stuck in 1972.

yeah um not really complaining just stating a noticeable speed difference that I have noticed in my circumstance... and I think it may be helpful for future buyers to understand that this product (which advertises speeds equivalent to those of a 4G network) may have an inconsistent speed difference as huge as the one I have stated in my previous post. It also helps sharing with users that there is a problem somewhere to make then aware that it may be a issue in more than one place. This is however a business who advertises a product that guarantees a connection within 4G speeds so whether or not it is affordable and the logic of "we get what we pay for" is applied we have to remember they also advertise the product with those speeds.

Also, I barely reach a monthly usage of 100GB with the exception of 500GB+ during my unlimited days and do not abuse the product as far as their T's and C's are concerned. You are right this product can be good or not depending on your circumstances as rain makes aware on their website and congestion does play a role and rain may make changes on their end with reference to their service without informing us immediately with the intention of keeping things fair. You've signed up for it anyway.

Needless to say rain has sorted the "issue" out on their side in less than 10 mins so I am as really happy with their product as I was about a year ago give or take.

Funny that. A while ago some were complaining about Rain sending out an email to ask someone who used >1TB in a month to please cool it a bit. Now someone is moaning when there's congestion on the network and it's slow.

Can't have it both ways, peeps.

Nah I'm giving up on this network. Its after midnight, but its so unusable I can't even load their very own site.
