So this is probably a noob question but anyways :o

My motherboard is an Asus P5k LGA775.

I currently have 2 sticks of 1gb RAM in the black slots:

If I put one of them into one of the yellow slots the PC doesn't start up, not even to BIOS.

This is the RAM I currently have in the PC:

Someone has donated 3 sticks of RAM to me but they don't fit in the slots even though they told me they are also DDR2.
They gave me 2 of these:

and one of these:

Are they the wrong type of RAM or are those yellow slots just not meant to be used?

Oh no :(
Okay thanks for the clarification. Now to see if there's anyone who'd want to swop DDR1 RAM for DDR2 :erm:

I doubt you will be success there as DDR1 is ancient and not many people use them any more. Try Gumtree.

I think my PC would benefit from 3x 512MB DDR-400 sticks.
Currently 768MB, it would be upgraded to 2GB. :)

That's a nice gesture Esquire ;)
Ya for real. Esquire gets a lot of sht (right so) but that's a legit kind gesture. In fact:

I don't recall a *SINGLE* case in the history of mybb of someone posting a general hardware help-me-fix-it query and a registered dealer stepping in unprompted & offering to provide suitable parts free of charge.

That is a bad and good things about Esquire, isn't? :)

I came to them with an old Fulitsu tablet (Core 2 Duo ULV CPU - not bad, found on the scrapyard), trying to find PSU for it. Not only I got an universal PSU with a matching plug, but also walked out with some other two units (one needed to be repaired). All for symbolic 50 bucks if I remember correctly. Tablet is still working.
