I have a HP compaq laptop, specs are as follow:

CPU : INTEL CELERON 925 2.3GHz

RAM : 2GB SINGLE CHANNEL DDR2 @ 398MHz (6-6-6-18)

is it possible to remove this DDR 2 ram which the laptop came with and replacing it with DDR 3 1333MHz ram?

also, can i use DDR 2 and DDR 3 together?

No. If you look at the edge of the board you'll see there is a notch to stop you from inserting the wrong type.

okay im only asking cause i havent opened the laptop but thanks so its only DDR 2 which will work?

Motherboard - HP 1605
OS - Windows 7 Professional 64bit
RAM - DDR 2, Single-Channel, 2GB
CPU - Intel Celeron 925 2.3 Ghz
GPU - Intel Mobile 4 Series Family Chipset
Storage : 300 GB

Can you give us the name of the laptop?
Start > System Information > System Model on the right side (Should be either Motherboard or name of Laptop which can lead us to the name of the motherboard.)

Probably one of the HP G56 variants. Let me google a bit

EDIT: I see the OP now states it is the Compaq Presario CQ56, which is the same thing basically.

it has 2 slots,
so it only supports DDR2?

Yes. If you buy another 2GB module you can have 4GB of DDR2.

There seems to be a AMD variant, that uses DDR3.

But now listen, don't be too bothered by that, more RAM is way more important than the slight speed difference between the DDR2 and 3, and a SSD drive would also make a big difference to your laptops startup and responsiveness.

thanks with the specs + the extra ram and possibly the ssd, would it be able to handle windows 10 or should i consider getting a new laptop?
