RAM Question

Thanks so much guys for your replys. BTW i got an AMD Athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+. Not use if that is a 939 AMD System you guys are talking about.

Depends on the CPU and motherboard. But if the CPU works in the motherboard and you're using DDR-400 RAM then it's a Socket 939 system. :)

The point is if he's running a 939 AMD system (clarify?) then 2GB is definitely enough, he should use his money on a new board and chip before spending on RAM, even if it is only R500. I doubt he would see any real benfit especially on 32bit.

If it's a socket 939 then yes, definitely upgrade first!
I thought it was AM2 then at least he could use the RAM on a Intel system at some other point...

The easiest way to check would be to use CPUZ: http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-143.zip
Your socket is listed under Package on the main screen.

If you have an AM2 setup, meaning you can use DDRII 800 RAM, then upgrading to 4GB with current memory prices isn't a bad idea. But unless you are gaming I doubt you will see much difference.
