Hi guys just want to find out I have a core 2 duo 2.4gh with 2G ddr2 800 ram went out and bought and extra 2G cause it was running in dual channel now my computer gives me the bios 3 long beeps. Spoke to a computer tech he says almost all mainboards except the new 1's dont support 4G I have never heard of that before if not so it could be the graphics card but my computer was working great before I put the new ram in.
 
Most likely the new ram isn't set in properly. You need to use some force. Take all the ram out and reset it.
 
What mobo are you running? Check the specs on your motherboard and see if it supports 4GB RAM or more.

Theoretically, 32-bit OS's cannot see more than 4GB of RAM and in practice, you only see about 3.2-3.5GB ram available of the 4GB installed in the system. If the motherboard supports 4GB or more, it shouldn't affect the PC in any way except your OS will see less RAM and if you have a low-end motherboard that's meant to run only 32-bit OS, chances are your mother board doesn't support full 4GB RAM.

But like I said before, check the specs on your motherboard.

Board is about a year and half old but then what would be the point of dual channel to 4 ram slots?

Based on the age, it should support 4GB, unless it's a really budget model. Budget models have been known to cut corners, by limiting things.

What make and model board is it? That would help in taking things further.
 
Out of interest - is 4GB 667 and 4GB 800 *that* much of a difference?

^Agreed^.. Cheap boards are cheap for a reason.

Please tell the make and model.
 
I am at work at the moment and my computer is at home and its an Intel gigabyte board. DDR2 800 ram an its 4x1G chips

Your keyboard plug might've come loose during the installation of your new RAM

Although the 3 short beeps is RAM related:
Your computer has memory problems. First check video. If video is working, you'll see an error message. If not, you have a parity error in your first 64K of memory. First check your SIMM's. Reseat them and reboot. If this doesn't do it, the memory chips may be bad. You can try switching the first and second banks memory chips. First banks are the memory banks that your CPU finds its first 64K of base memory in. You'll need to consult your manual to see which bank is first. If all your memory tests good, you probably need to buy another motherboard.

Have you checked the manual and website for RAM requirements of the board...
