Ramaphosa's bullet trains progressing at a snail's pace

i wonder if he even really believes the **** that comes out of his mouth, promises and 'updates of improvements'.
they cant even get the Shozoloza Meyl slow train going all the way to from JHB to CT, services cancelled less than month than coming back with big promises of service.
i'm sure somebody else writes his speeches for him, but he should think what he's saying. perhaps he likes to complain to other people that they make him look bad, but he doing all himself
What does he care. He is the president.

There is literally more chance of Margaret Thatcher and the late Queen coming back to life and dancing the Macarena outside Buckigham palace than for any of these promised bullet trains to appear.

The Road Worriers of South Africa will never allow this Project to succeed. Ramaphoza is living a DREAM ....

I don't think anybody has done the math yet. China's high speed rail costed $25 million per kilometer. This was consider extremely low and doubt we would be able to go that cheap.

Back of the envelope calcs:

That place total construction cost between JHB-DBN at $25m * 600 at $15 billion. At R18=$1 it is R270 billion.

So ignoring effect of inflation/time value of money.

If we say that each ticket will contribute R1000 to paying capital cost, and we will run a concession for 20 years. This means 270m trip over 20 years, e.g. 13.5 million trips per year. This is almost 3 times as many as DBN airport. And the ticket will almost cost the same as a airplane ticket (operation expense needs to be added on top of the R1000).

So you can play with the numbers by reducing ticket price and hoping your volume of passengers go up. But honestly I doubt you will make the numbers add up.

Besides we will not hit $25m per kilometer in any circumstance.

And it is not if the Chinese high speed railroad is financially sound even there.

grandiose ideas by a president on nyope/tik/something stronger

the Country is Broke, both literally and figuratively, we have Daily load shedding, potholes the size of cars, sewerage flowing in the streets,
lines of unemployed Doctors and lawyers and other Highly skilled people.

and this d00s says Bullet trains, how is it he wasn't laughed out of existence?

It's not going to happen. Not the way that we keep being taxed at the moment to keep paying for mounting debt that the leading party has occurred.
