Rand crumbles as load shedding pressures mount

Load shedding obviously hurting our export industry.
My export orientated factory has been standing idle since the latest round of loadshedding started.

2 delivery penalty clauses to kick in on 30 September if I cannot deliver.
All workers must still be paid.

Yeah, lots of fun.

I know of a few things which are placed on an indefinite hold. It is like pandemic lockdown all over again. Wish you guys the best.

The Dollar will become exhausted at some point. The Americans are basically dictating the world with their decisions at this time. In the view that they are curbing their domestic issues, the rest are challenged by it. Repaying the US's debt is becoming an expensive exercise, and not everyone can attempt to meet the US on their decisions. The Swedes have hiked their rates by 100 basis points. Go see what happened to Turkey when they decided to cut their rates. Anyone who needs Dollars, who is not American, will need to have lube in hand. Does Eskom need Dollars?

Remember, this is not an American recession. They said so.
I wonder at what point people are going to get fed up with the dollar as the reserve currency.

The Americans can effectively print their way out of anything. Inflation? No problem, hike rates, everyone flocks to the dollar, dollar strengthens, everyone else gets fscked...

As long as the world believes in the power of the dollar. This is not the making of the USA.

Because if you try a different reserve currency you get some American freedom on your doorstep.

It is a good time to earn in Dollars.
Yeah it's nuts. This is basically a 20% pay increase for me. Obviously local prices will go to **** before long, but at least my salary is mitigating that compared to all those who are just materially worse off.

Thanks

Actually spent 10 minutes today trying to explain the concept of loadshedding to the American. He kept asking me if we don't have power because of some natural disaster. My instinct was to reply hurricane ANC, but alas such childish things do not belong in business.

Meeting with the Aussie in a few hours. He has a couple of Saffas working for him so I expect an easier conversation ;)

Horrible reporting. This has nothing to do with Eskom or Ramaphosa.
It has a lot to do with that. Load shedding creates an economic environment that nobody wants to invest in. Sure, other economic and geopolitical factors outside our borders also contribute, but this is definitely doing a good job of our currency being devalued.

Thats insane, is it signs of a recession or what

Until the US say there is a recession there is no global recession. Yes, there is a global downturn which can't be ignored. Be brave.

In my opinion, policy makers and their respective central banks are running empty on lube, and those who need Dollars are being hung out to dry, which is everyone.
