Rand tumbling

Rand tumbles when:
1) US markets near-crash
2) Zuma opens his mouth.

So:
1) is happening today.
2) I am praying for this today too.

(as you can guess, I earn in Euros)

Under R 8.00/$ now...what was its high point over the last day?

I also see R8.11 on IOL indicators.

One thing to be wary of - the rand/$ is not a good indication - look at the R/Euro for a better picture of our fall.

The Euro/ZAR rate is fscking unbelievable! My brother bought Euros for a trip a short while back and he was bitching about the rate when it was round R12.05 --- R12.83 now.

Exactly. The R/Euro rate is now worse than it was in the rand "crash" of 2001.

Agreed, the Rands fall against the USD is somewhat softened by the USD weakening as well.
 
March 10th was the lowest to date.
I tend to look at sterling, due to family etc.
R16 to £1 - ouch!
That says one thing to me, I don't think my brother + family will be coming over to the UK this year!
