Rand VS Dollar

Not likely. I will continue to hover around the R7.80-R8.50 mark.

The trouble is if it is as a result of the dollar weakening then those dollar prices you are gleefully eyeing will no doubt increase...

I doubt that very much, the dollar is weak so i am hoping we continue to gain strength from that plus with the world cup looming i foresee loads of money coming into SA too boost our economy which in turn should make the rand a lot stronger.

+1

dollar is weak = rand is not stronger

all other major currencies have dropped but its purely because of the world wide financial turmoil.

Stronger rand versus dollar will see all the marginal profit (gold) mines closing, as well as any marginal export businesses in all sectors.

Pushes up unemployment.

Not always a good thing.

Thing is with Obama printing dollars to prop up his own economy at home - he got some good financial advice from uncle bob - chances are should matters get any worse, we may very well see the dollar weakening further if there are any further large casualties state side.

This is going to ruin me. So many things to import that are now becoming quite affordable... :(

You know what makes me mad .... example: I bought a Sony Muteki DDW??? in December for R5,899.00 when the rand was like R10/$1. Now its at avg R8/$1, how come the same system sells for R6,999.00 on special at Game Stores now??? hmmm tell me that our big stores are not playing us for fools ?!?!

It will go down to 7.50 - watch it !!!
For how long it will be there - that's another question...

Personally I wish it would be around 14 - at least it would improve our export !

Quick question , does the rand to dollar affect our harware prices ? Or do we import our stuff from china ? Also should i buy hardware now at decent prices or wait a month hoping they come down more ?

No hardware is determined by the dollar, the better than rand/daollar the better hardware pricing becomes.

Damn hardware was cheaper when it was 5 bucks to the dollar :D

No i think 8 or 9 is good for the whole economy, we want to exporting more than importing but with a high dollar rate it means the guy on the ground struggles badly with pricing.

I mean what is the point of having great exports but petrol and everything else imported is expensive, negates the good export if you ask me.

basically everything is traded in US$ ... so yes it should, but if the big boys who import dont pass on the savings, then no - they wont come down.

Because the Chinese price all their goodies in $ irrespective if they sell to the states or to africa.

$ is the global currency in use currently.
