Hi,

I just wanna figure out if this is a random fault or if everyone is having this problem.

1.) Is there anyone not experiencing the line drop problem?
2.) What OS are you using?
3.) What is your location?

Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Hi freemilo,

Yes, it has already been discussed but don't worry.

Neotel is having major issues - even if they don't admit to it - they are.

My line speed is slow as hell, we talking speeds that were 100KB/s and up down too speeds of 20KB/s and even less.

I don't have the disconnections issue because I've setup a manual connection for my Neotel so that when it does disconnect, 15 seconds later, it reconnects. However, every 2 hours, or every 2GB, I do have a disconnect (which is why I've setup the manual connection)

I'm in Cape Town CBD (near ninex) :D

I'm using Windows XP Pro with SP3

I'm in parow CPT.

My line speed isn't that bad i get an RSSI of 65-85 depending if I'm upstairs or downstairs (get about 180kb/s on a good day). My line drop is random and xp dialup auto reconnect feature doesn't work for me.

XP wont recognize line dropping because as far as the phone is concerned, it never received a dc message from the tower...

The dc is an issue on their side

But everyone isn't experiencing this problem so are these tower specific problems in each area different?

Anybody know of an app that can detect these line drops so we can enable auto reconnect?

@philosopher

"gdiza" says he doesn't have the line drop problem, and he's able to use auto reconnect. I get line drop all the time but my line speed seems to be ok.

Can we get more details on batch files with rasdial please.

No, I do have the line drop problem but it only happens every 2 hours ±

I've setup my connection to redial after 15 seconds (to give the modem time to 'recover')

So I don't even notice the line drop anymore.

My line drop occurs after the first 2.3 GB downloaded for the day, but my reconnect settings keeps me online.

I am in Cape Town CBD (close to gdiza) :D

O.S. Windows 7 RC 1 x64

I don't think we having the same problem. You guys are actually experiencing line drops.

My dial up still shows as connected but i have no internet connection so my auto redial doesn't kick in. Also i don't download so my usage is about 1 gig for the month. I'm unable to notice a pattern as some days are more frequent than other while my online activity doesn't change.

I used to have that problem. A lot. They seem to have sorted it out now. I haven't had one of those drops in a week. Before that it was twice a day. Phone support so that they know about it. Also have your RSSI and PN ready because it will be logged with the technical dept

I am also having the line drop where my connection says that I am connected, after that I must reset the router and the phone or sometimes only the router or only the phone

I am having the problem everyday, sometimes 2 times a day

OK, here are my latest findings.

Spoke to a guy from Neotel's real technical support, he recons the line drop problem will be experienced by anyone with a bad signal. Base stations are overloaded and the Base Station will drop the users with the worst signal first.

I then decided it was time to setup my external Poynting Yagi antenna that's been lying in my room for the past month. (Techi also advised that it should stop the line drops or at least reduce the number of line drops) Experienced the following 1)Moved from PN 452 to 116 (how do I check where these stations are located and how does the device decide which tower to connect to?) 2) moved from 3 to 4 bars. 3) RSSI went from 85 to 51. 4) Ping improved to 388ms, I think it use to be close to 500ms.

Now after these improvement I was looking forward to running a speed test but WTF:sick:

Although my ping had improved my line speed went south:confused: i use to get between 400kb - 1.5mb, now it was down to 140kbs. Actual downloads was down to 24kb from the 190kb I use to get.

Called support and my RSSI is now toooooooo low. For best results it should be between 60-75 also the antenna takes about a day or two to adjust and it should fix itself and settle at 60-65. :confused:i think this is total BS but what can I do but hope this is what will happen.

UPDATE:

The lower the RSSI the better, this was confirmed by second line support. (my RSSI is excellent) The story of it sorting itself out in a couple of days is also a lie.

They admit they can't explain it. He could only suggest that I try and move the direction of the antenna and try to get the device to connect to a different cell on the station (each station had 3 cells pointing in a different direction) There is no way to force the device to connect to a specific cell.

If i reconnect my normal indoor antenna my RSSI moves up again but my line speed goes back to 400kb :D, so this problem has something to do with the antenna.

Anybody got any suggestions.

One thing I've noticed with ALL my Speed Tests is. The higher the latency, the higher the speed. When my latency drops, so does my result.

Could someone explain why

Doesn't it make sense that your ping would improve because of a better signal and a better signal should also increase line speed:confused:

UPDATE

After the install of the Yagi antenna i have not experienced a single line drop. RSSI is constant on 50 and sometimes goes to 47.

New problem
I would expect my line speed to have incresed in relation to the good RSSI but this has not happened both the external and default antenna achieve line speeds of 200-300kb and ping is also similat at 300-400ms, although the default antenna has an RSSI of 75.

Recently the line speed of 200-400 has become the norm but i use to be able to get between 700-1.5mb. My thinking is that either klomp people have joined Neotel in my area or Neotel has configured these towers to deliver slower speeds to accomidate more users on the tower. What is this sync problem people are talking about??? (is this a real thing or just an excuse made up by neotel?)

RSSI is still on 47 but my line speed is down to 190kb

WTF???

low RSSI has resolved my line drop problem but i don't understand why my speed keeps going up and down when my RSSI is constant, it would make sense if the RSSI was going up and down aswell.
