a friend of mine told me today that the reason why his computer is running slower than it should is because he's running xp 32bit on a 64bit processor (some AMD thing and it has x64 on the case)
can someone please comment on this?
i didnt even know that you got 32 and 64bit processors... or was he talking out of his ass?

ok, so you do get x64 processors... the thing im wondering though is why is his computer so much slower than mine?
he's got the exact same system as i have except he's got an AMD cpu and mobo and i have a E4500 (he has the AMD 2.2ghz equivalent though)
maybe his is just screwed up... or maybe AMD sucks?

You can't compare GHz vs GHz when you compare AMD with intel. They work differently. AMD working less well currently...hopefully their future processors will be worthwhile. So yes, AMD sucks atm. It's not all about big numbers, it's about actual performance.

many things can affect performance; virus scanners, open applications, gfx cards, RAM, etc.

I have a 1.6GHz processor in my notebook that runs faster than most 2GHz+ processor notebooks, just because I don't install everything I can and keep memory resident applications to a minimum. rule of thumb, if I'm not using it, it is not open.

+1, like faceboob most people just add everything they see, even if they are not going to use it.....some of these things run in the back ground and start-up when your pc starts up :(

True! but sometimes they use more RAM & PF than your CPU

AMD always went with "slap-a-huge-cpu-speed-on-it" approach
eg: AMD X2 4800+ [not a 4.8Ghz CPU but the actual speed is 2.4Ghz

While intel always stayed true to the actual speeds E2160 1.8ghz :D ect.
