So it's purely a matter of economics? If people get expensive, we should kill them?
What are the stats on death penalty as a deterrent, do you know?
What if you execute an innocent person, isn't that murder? Who stands trial for that murder?
their death does not have to serve anything. It's what he deserved which IS death. This whole story about no one deserves to die is absolute nonsense. If you're a cold blooded killer / serial rapist, you deserve death, a quick death, immediate, pull the plug.
Why? What does their death serve?
Since the death penalty was stopped violent crimes have increased and since prisoners have been given more rights than the innocent crime has increased. They have taken the innocents rights away, what gives him the right to have more rights than you and to be treated like a king in prison.
Death doesn't punish the offender. He'll be dead, nothing more. Life imprisonment is arguably the worse punishment. And it has the added benefit that you will always have the chance to rectify your mistake if you imprison the wrong person. There is no valid argument for death penalty over life imprisonment. If you want to bring the cost of housing a criminal into it, I think you would need to show that there are not enough resources for the world's current population.
So when a criminal breaks into your house and rapes your wife and children, for no reason other than to punish you. Then he takes a iron and irons you and your family while demanding more money and firearms that you don't have. Then you are happy to have him serve a 15 year sentence, out in 9 years for good behaviour and due to over crowded prisons!
No, life.
The DP (and accompanied process) is actually more expensive than housing the prisoner for the rest of his/her life. This however should not be about money, but what punishment the criminal deserves. For house robbery and rape he won't get life, he will only get abouyt 15 years of which he will only serve 2/3rds as is the current law of this country.
Um.. no.Why these nutters must stay in death row for so long is beyond me. If you're found guilty and the penalty is death, get on with it!!
I'm also for public execution in a controlled environment where no persons under 21 should be allowed.
Rather, get bail for R1000, rape another 5 people before his trial starts two years later.

After some time in prison, the criminal becomes institutionalised - prison becomes a way of life not so much a punishment. The victim who was murdered is gone, no chance of coming back - the criminal took that life away. He deserves to die. The same goes for a serial rapist who ruined the lives of innocent girls who now must struggle emotionally for the rest of their lives(in their own prisons for which they never asked in the first place)You still haven't managed to show why death is more what the criminal deserves, compared to life imprisonment which is more of a punishment.

If you cannot see that then you're very ignorant.
