Rapport On-Line Opinion Poll

The Afrikaans Newspaper Rapport who earlier in the day carried an article based on the Icasa enquiry and recommends a Judicial Inquiry, is now running an on-line opinion poll http://www.news24.com/Rapport/Home/

For those that cannot read the Taal, you must click next to the first of the following three options displayed in the righthand column Lol

Eh, am i somewhat lost? I don't quite get that poll. It says

Die Telkom-monopolie maak dinge moeilik vir die ekonomie en dit is tyd dat die minister ingryp. Stem u saam?

'Yes, let the minisiter do something about the telkom monopoly to reduce phone costs'

and then

'No, the govt must not get involved'

Imho the reason why there is a Telkom monopoly in the first place is because the govt is involved??! The poll insinuates that we'll only get lower prices if the govt makes it happen [thus control the system], i always thought if govt dropped all laws relating to licensing and who may build infrastructures and what not then prices will drop....

The government created the monopoly and only they can control their creature unfortunately. If we wait another 20 years for the "free market" to undo that monstrosity called Telkom then we might as well give up now. The "quick fix" is to go the political route and judicial inquiry if necessary.
The "Independant" in ICASA has about the same value to me as the "Democratic" in the DRC.

Why would Ivy do anything - there are too many vested interests and until the public knows what they are - they will be screwed.

That is unless Ivy changes her mind, in which case the public won't have to find out what said interests are.
