Raspberry Pi as a HTPC

Ug. So I spent R200 on a Logitech harmony 300i remote, R150 on a Lindy IR dongle... and I couldnt get the remote to work with xbmc. I am totally not sure how to set it up for xbmc.

So I downloaded the android xbmc remote app... and it works flawlessly. I just wasted R350 :(

How easy was the Android XMBC remote to set up?

Im using Raspbmc.

I have a network storage device (mvixbox) with about 2 TB of HD content on it. Testing with the movie Avatar. A 1080HD 11GB mkv HD file I am able to run it seamlessly over the network. There is no stutter or issues.

What is the final (total) size of Raspbmc download? In terms of bandwidth req, not uncompressed image.

I was actually hoping to put something on the Pi that could handle my videos and download my torrents as well

xbmc has plugins that allow you to set it up to download torrents.... and check your gmail.... and browse facebook or forums. Right now I am busy downloading a 6666 ROM pack (with all old sega/nintendo and even some zx spectrum games).

You enable it under settings on xbmc. Then you put the IP, username and password into the client. Thats about it. Very very easy.

How about over Bluetooth? I have a dongle I want to use as I don't have anyway for the Pi to use internet.

As it is a Linux platform I am sure there will be Bluetooth drivers depending on your hardware. Not all Bluetooth sticks was made equal.

Ok cool. See the official XBMC doesn't seem to support Bluetooth, but there are other options I'll try when my Pi arrives.

Still waiting. I give them one more week then all hell will break loose! ;)

About 50mb.

that's only the initial download.
the rest will be downloaded / updated on your first power up of the rPi.
(yes you need an internet and LAN connection to run RaspBMC the first time

Didnt even notice that. Must be real fast. I suppose if I had read the documentation or instructions I might have seen that, but I just switched it on and went at it :D

Guys I just tried to boot with raspBMC, but I can't get past the logon.

It asks for "raspbmc login" to which I type "pi"
and "Password" to which I enter "raspberry".

But it says Login incorrect.

Any ideas?

EDIT: I have verified that my keyboard registers my keystrokes properly, because when I enter "raspberry" as the username, it works perferctly

Isn't the user\pass for raspbmc root\root?

"And LAN connection", so can I not use my 3G dongle?
