Hi,

I want to upgrade my raspberry pi's sd card.

The one in there at the moment sucks (slow and choppy, can't even pay SD movies).

Was thinking this would be a good bet

Sandisk SDHC II 8GB Ultra Memory Card

Any suggestions? I just want to walk into a shop and buy one but don't want to buy something that does not work well.
I would rather spend a bit more first time around then buy something that does not deliver.

Do you need 8GB? I got a 4GB in both, and it works fine.

I would rather have the space than not need it.

Speed is more important to me though but there are a few things I like to get to without having to plug drives and such in (couple of mp3's, movie or two and such for playing around and testing/showing off the device).

Edit: my current card is a Class 5 kingston 8gb.
It really and truly sucks in the raspberry. Stock install and everything crawls. About 2 minutes to open a doc.

I use the Class 10 8GB sandisk in my android media player and it works flawlessly, though plugging in a sandisk 16GB flash drive freezes after a couple hours of use.

Thanks for the info :)

It seems one of the better cards to use from what I have been reading so I'll go get one on the way home.

Card works a charm :)

Loaded XBian and plays full hd movies quite smoothly :)

Oh wow... I was having issues with my Pi and I wonder if this could be the cause.

I had plenty issues with my last card, ended up forgetting about it and found it in my toolbox the other day so thought I may as well retry.
Now it is almost flawless.

Only issue I see is I am using GPT formatted 3tb drives for my current media server so guess I should find something else to do with it.

ok this thread needs a solid injection of facts.

SD cards are classed 1-10, being equivalent to 1-10mb/sec transfer - worst case scenario. Classification is old. Check OPs pic...it says 30mb/s next to it...yet class 10. thats because there is no class 30, so they take it as 10+

nb you pay quite a price premium for the 10 class...so think whether you need it. if your rasp is just a server sitting there then more space at lower class might make sense. if you buy from IC expect to pay like a couple times the price for 10 class.

I can't find that info anywhere, just that the SD Card association has designated Class 2,4,6 & 10. Not the odd number you indicate or the others that you imply. Which is why I thought Class 5? that is odd, sounds bogus and maybe that is why Astroturf has been experiencing issues with that card.

I have a Sandisk 8GB 30MBps card and it works great. Cost R160

First card I tried in the pi was an Integral 8GB... It gave random errors, and just didn't work properly. It couldnt even boot, each time I tried reloading the OS it got stuck at a different place.

Could be class 6, really no idea. Not with me right now.

Just looked... my card is a class 4, that explains a lot.

Apparently lots of people have great luck with some of the class 4 cards but many of them also really suck.
Same goes for any class of SD card.

I have an idea you did what I did, bought the board, used a card that was lying around doing nothing then just left the project?

Just ordered 3 raspberries model B.

Looking for 3 sd cards that work without any problems. Looking at this thread I will follow astro turf and buy 3 of these cards

Astro turf, u say these work leka for watching movies? Are you playing the movies from the sd card or are you playing them from USB?
Movies I will be playing will be from USB and will mostly be 720p?

Forgive me I'm a total raspberry pi noob

I tried 1010P and I as well as 720 and they play well.

I played them off NTFS external drives as well as straight off the flash drive.

I used Xbian but sure the other XBMC ports will work.
