Rats ate my air filter??

So I take my car for a service. Mid morning they phone me and ask if they can change the air filter because it looks like Rats got into it.

There is holes or evidence of rats anywhere, except the filter itself.

So, is this rats or mice, or can something else cause this?

Put a block of cheese in with the new filter and see which one gets eaten first

You dont want them eating your wiring. That is costly. Warranty and insurance doesn't cover rat damage

Were there any rat poops in the filter housing?

no idea. they didn't say anything. but to be honest, that doesn't look like rats to me. too much in the middle and in the same place. also, after the service (which was its first) all the torque steer seems to be gone, which was a big issue for me the first 20,000km

Yeah WTF is up with HMF rats eating copper wire and isolation? I have seen them chow straight thru network cable for no reason other than to get to the copper. These damn South African copper stealing rats.

Or is it to get back at the Cat 6?

Check the intake pipe for any loose pieces of wire that could have gotten stuck in there.
The shape of that looks like something that was floating around that was loose in the intake side.
The bends on the filter media indicates that the air intake to the engine was more than what the filter allowed and started to make a vacuum and started sucking the filter inwards.
The color of the media looks if it from the GUD/FRAM stable undercover for the OEM.

How the hell are you driving that you are getting torque steer?

You should only ever feel that if you are doing flat out hard launches. Otherwise it's not torque steer.

exactly this. and that combined with traction control/ESP made it a bit of a nightmare in first gear

Will open it up over the weekend, and see if the filter is still okay. Thanks oom aap.

Yes because it's too much power for a FWD car.

And as Fanie pointed out now he also drives one and in the fashion I mentioned so that explains it all.

I had a Polo GTi, 2011. Same-ish 0-100. no torque steer of any kind.

Any Golf GTi owners here who have torque steer?
