Rav4 Vs Qashqai

I would choose Nissan Qashqai over the RAV4 as interior quality is better build than RAV4 and better to drive too.
The Qashqai is good to drive and efficient. It's very quiet and ride quality is smooth comfortable. The interior is well built quality. However, it has poor rear visibility and the legroom space is quite tight in the back. The RAV4 is more spacious than Qashqai though.

A Cashcow is a business, investment, or product that provides a steady income or profit.

Actually the Qashqai has better features than RAV4, but the model OP chose 1.2 Acenta has Climate control automatic air conditioning, Traction control, Rain sensor auto wipers, Auto dim interior mirror, Light sensor auto on off lights where as the RAV4 2.0 GX does not, however the RAV4 does have Camera for park distance control that the 1.2 Acenta does not but is optional.
 
I know its not 1 of the 2 you are keen for. But I just bought the Tucson and I am very happy. I also noticed when making my decision that it didn't have as many features as the the Qashqai, but the drive is definitely a lot better. I also felt it was a little more chunky and closer to SUV than a compact SUV. Also it has the 7 year warranty, which I thought was a nice bonus. Added leather seats for R9k and it looks great!
 
thanks..we looked at the Tucson but weren't too happy.
 
I'm doing research in the same type of car.

The list thus far:
1. Xtrail - bigger that the qashqai. New one is quite nice. Not that much more expensive
2. Tuscan - a vbit too expensive
3. Sportage - not bad, just don't like Kia
4. Kuga - nice new model, but brand damage will make it hard to sell 2nd hand
5. RAV4 - Overpriced IMO. You can just as well buy a 2nd hand Fortuner. Also. theft risk is high

Now to persuade the bank manager. She owes me a car (I bought a new car, she loved and took it for herself).
 
Was in the same boat as OP last year. Went with the QQ. More refined, better drive, turbo motor (which is needed at the reef), better warranty 6yr/150k. Cons are there is no PDC, but I fitted aftermarket, some turbo lag and doors don’t auto lock. The clincher was price though about 40k less than Rav (both were 1 month old demos)

My 2c...

Renault Kadjar - Nicely built, as mentioned similar to cashcow but I prefer the Renault's drive and looks/dynamics.
Nissan Xtrail - Getting good reviews from my research, and a sound engine.
Hyundai Tucson - Meh, its probably reliable but when I test-drive it I cant help but feel its 1992.
Kia Sportage - Overpriced for what you get, and thew new one looks like the designer was on LCD.
Ford Kuga - Good reviews, minus the fire thing of the old one - good engine, interior etc. Might come off as a "Mom's Car" though?
Toyota RAV4 - I'm not a Toyota fan, but the build quality from what I've researched is good, as is the mechanics. Its a "logic" buy.
Mazda CX-5 - Very nice but you can get more spec in a Ford Kuga.
Subaru Forester - Not done any test-drive/research on this one.
Peugeot 3008 - As with all Peugeot's its amazingly built, well spec'd, looks awesome, reliable ... and will devalue faster than the Zim dollar in our strange country.
Jeep Compass - Dont know about this one, could be good but the last shape didnt do it for me.

PS - I left out Honda. Its pricey but I imagine very well screwed together and reliable. Its styling is not super but it will be a "logical" buy like the RAV4 - it will serve you forever.

I'm also finding it hard as i'de like a Diesel 4x4 automatic - which is not easy to find in a lot of these.

The Renault Kadjar is surprisingly one of the best looking out of the lot, they've clearly recently banned shrooms being partaken in the Renault design office.

How does it compare price wise, also considering it will have significantly less resale vale than most of the other options?

An indication of Toyota's astounding resale value is look on Gumtree for a 20yr+ old 1st gen Rav4, it's neigh impossible to find one under R60k and for that money they'll typically be pushing 400,000 km or more.

Tiguan Rline 15' 16' DSG Diesel Auto 2.0 TDI (Can't find one at price point)
Kuga Titanium 2.0 Diesel Auto

Budget is R280k-300k
