Depends on car.
Kia and Hyundai still fit old automatic gearboxes to there cars, even the most current ones.
My personal opinion is that ZF-8 speed torque converter gearbox gives you best of both worlds, but they mainly only get fitted on BMW.
The 6-speed autobox fitted in creta and Tucson is also not too bad, only slight increase in fuel consumption. ( nice long warranty to consider)
I heard the EDC boxes gives decent consumption, but feels a bit sluggish and not refined enough yet. Give them a few years then they might be better then.
CVT boxes is sluggish and slow and always seems to "hunt" for gears, it never knows in what gear it need to be in. They also quite noisy, not sure if they better in newer cars.
