Hi - I have an RCT-2000va UPS that I would like to use on 2 PCS and 2 credit card machine at work in case of earth leakage / power failure etc just to keep alive long enough to safely shutdown.

I currently have all the above running off an extension lead and so ideally would like to just plug this lead into on of the 3 prong plugs spots provided in the back of the UPS instead of using the individual pc cable plugs provided.

Question is - can this UPS support the current draw of 2 PCS from just the one plug or will I likely fry something??
Thanks guys

Short answer:
Yes it can

Long answer:
UPSs have multiple outputs because generally people don't connect leads to them.
Instead they connect single devices to the UPS.
Internally all the UPS outputs connect to two single wires going into the inverter anyway. (They are connected in parallel).

A UPS has a maximum power output. So if the computers draw more power than the UPS offers, it will not work. Credit card machines don't use a lot of power, but the computers might use a lot of power. If you are going to add a laser printer to that, your UPS will have to be way bigger. Reading the OP though, my guess is it is point of sale computers. Might be able to get away with that UPS.

Okay good news thanks. Yes one small POS pc and one normal tower. No printers etc, wasn't sure how the internals of these things work. Out of interest if I was trying to draw to much would it cause hassles even when mains power is on or only when there's a power failure?

It really depends on the UPS, in this case it is likely it'll only happen when you switch to battery.

If 2 credit card machines and 2 Desktop PCs draw more than 2000VA I'll eat my shoe.

I have 3 desktop pcs, 4 monitors, and 3 routers on this UPS and it's fine.
