Okay with ICASA closing down all the little man wisps that are trying to make a buck even with the icasa sanctioned telkom monopoloy.

what are the legalities on wimax zones and mweb hotspots? all a hotspot basically is is a micro wisp. where does it become legal "like" mweb, and illegal like some of the other wisps?

"The information includes the fact that the VANS licence would not have been adequate. Van Den Berg was providing wireless Internet access, crossing boundaries like roads and people's premises, which is contrary to conditions of a VANS licence, Rossouw says."

There is your answer. Internet hotspots provide connectivity for small areas like coffee shops, and does not cross any public roads. This same regulation prevented companies from connecting two branch offices seperated by a public road with fiber optic, instead having to pay exorbitant fees to Telkom for setting up the connection.

I think it's because the Mweb hotspots are all on a single premisis and don't cross public roads etc.
I'll bet I could pick up their signal from across the road/next door.

Yes guys, be careful. If the signal crosses the road it may get ran over or it could cause a accident. lol

Jo'burg is going to set up a mo&#se WIFI network. Why can't we????

ICASA closing down WISPs is a step backwards, imagine them doing that in any country besides this one (where Telkom runs the show), regulator would be shot DOWN!
