Greetings

A friend of mine is looking for an IDE hard drive for an old Petium4 desktop. Had a look at new prices and they're pretty steep. At present, the system has a 20GB hard drive, and something like a 160GB would be a huge step up.

So, does anyone have any old drives lying around that aren't being used? If so, please let me know and we can come to some arrangement regarding payment and shipping.

Cheers

Might be worthwhile buying a sata controller?
I may have a couple of IDE drives around but I wouldn't use them as they are OOOOOLD...

Invest in a SATA controller, I think I saw one at Matrix going for around R100 a few weeks back

As said - rather get a SATA controller, and SATA HDD.

IDE is on its way out.

YMMV with the SATA controller though - but I've found that by disabling the primary IDE ports, and plugging the SATA in usually result in PC booting up from SATA 99% of the time.

The other 1% is motherboards that's simply too old, or retarded to pick the SATA controller up.

You can have my 120gig IDE for free if you want.

Where do you stay?

PM me.

So glad IDE is no more.

Was fun while it lasted, but if you want more than 4 devices, you're out of luck.

And this master-slave nonsense caught a lot of people out :D

What area you in?

Wow, good to see a busy forum! Thanks for all the advice.

Might investigate the SATA controller and SATA HDD option, but for now all he needs is a basic machine to learn on, watch a few videos, school work etc.

So, thanks for the offer, IzZzy. I'll take you up on it. I'm in Jeppestown area, close to Jeppe Boys High. I can also travel/meet wherever it suits you.

I have a sata controller, never been used. Bring me a bottle of Tassenberg and you are welcome to have it. I'm on the east rand which is not a very pleasant place to visit. But if you're feeling lucky...
