Hi there all,

Most of you know me as dBx | Vitrolic. I play Call Of Duty 4 Online competitively.

You also probably know if you've played with me that I tend to complain about my pc.

The other day I decided find out exactly what was inside there.

CPU : Intel Celeron D 2.4Ghz
RAM : 768Mb RAM DDR2 533, Unbranded Generic (1x512Mb + 1x256Mb)
Graphics : Chaintech Nvidia Geforce 7300GT AGP (Its an AGP Mobo)
Mobo : Foxconn P4M800P7MB
Standard Beige AOpen Case with 250W Aopen PSU
Line : 384k Telkom
Average Ping : +-45ms

First of all thanks for reading this. I play on 640x480 resolution.
On a map like vacant, inside the office, I easily get an FPS of about 110fps.
This is great, and totally playable.
However on a map like backlot, when im outside its not uncommon for me to get about 17 or 18 fps, which is virtually unplayable and very frustrating.

I've tried to use the yitch2 and yitch3 configs, both of which gave me terrible lag, LOWER fps and constant lag spikes, even when i tweaked the maxpackets, maxfps and rates several times. I can't tell u how many times I've tried to get them working.

At the moment I'm using Dignitas Raz's config, with maxpackets set to 100, max fps 125 and a rate of 8000. After EXTENSIVE testing I found this gives me the most stable fps and ping. Also I found that my sniper shots seem to register the most with these settings.

Basically, I'm getting a new pc at the end of the year (woot!). At the moment I've got R800 which I want to spend on trying to get decent performance on my pc that gives me a more constant fps even in more detailed areas.
The obvious answer to me seems to be to get more RAM. But will having 1024Mb DDR2 533Mhz + 512Mb DDR2 533Mhz instead of my current setup really make a big difference in performance?

I have also thought about dual=booting with Tiny XP : Beast Edition (A version of XP trimmed down to the bear necessities to maximize performance on slow pc's. )
Rebel if you're reading this please can you reply here about whether you have hosted this on newshost, thanks alot man.

Finally, please can no-one reply with comments like get a job etc.

So please can you reccomend the best config, the best upgrade I can get for R800 and also what I should put my maxfps, maxpackets, packetdup and rate to.

Thanks so much in advance for your time,
Stephen (Vitro)

looks not matter what you do that 7300gt is a shocking card

try and get something a little more decent but it looks like you need a whole new pc man

yes 1.5 gig ram will make a huge difference over 768

yeah dude 7300GT AGP is a shocking card, but it was a big improvement over my FX5200 rofl.

Will i be able to take over the DDR2 533Mhz to my new pc at the end of the year by any chance? Or do the new pc's and mobos use a different type of RAM?

Thanks for the help.

i would if i was you buy 2 gig of ddr 800

not expensive around 450-500 bucks, then i would live with my vga card because if you buy an expensive agp card and upgrade end of year it will be useless in your new rig as agp is dead

Sorry to bother, but will 2 gig of ddr 800 work in my Foxconn P4M800P7MB?

I thought mobos could only use the one type of RAM they were specified for.

yea ddr800 would not run at 800 but it would run

you could go for ddr 667 but it wont be much cheaper and when u upgrade end of this year ddrr800 would be better than 667 considering there is no price difference

so for future rather buy the faster memory which is priced the same as 667, i have not seen 533 ram on my suppliers price lists so im not sure if they still bringing it in as im sure most ppl are buying ddr800 due to the price being so low

Awesome! So it will run at 533Mhz? So i can use it in my pc at the end of they year! AWESOME!

Yes it will prob run at 533MHz. And you will be able to use it with your new PC. If you weren't getting a new PC soon, the best option would be to get a new graphics card, but it would in this case be a waste because you're upgrading relatively soon.

Or you could sell your card second hand for a few hundred, and buy second hand 7600GS or something...

I'm sorry but I couldn't get past this: "I play on 640x480 resolution" ...... how is that even possible without time traveling. Eish ......
