Real names and real problems

I'll bet if you are on Linkedin, you've used your real name.

So what's the problem?

People won't even pay $2 for whatsapp, I doubt they will want to pay $5 for any other service that they previously had free.

This is a mindset that has to change. People need to equate quality with a subscription, otherwise they have no room to complain if there is noise and external influence on their social network.

For instance, people are happy to spend R60 a month on BBM, but bitch and moan about spam and being stalked. Ridiculous, really...

I think Google is just a little over-obsessed with knowing exactly who absolutely everyone is and exactly what they do, all the time. I find it irritating, they can go to hell. Facebook is not a huge amount better. Sick of all my online movements being attempted to be tracked everywhere all the time.

You REALLY can't see a difference? Uhrm, OK, I'll assume for the sake of argument that you're genuinely ignorant, though the 'tone' sounds like you are making a statement with a rhetorical question (i.e. mocking people who see a problem) rather than genuinely asking because you don't know. Anyway, a MASSIVE percentage of websites embed either Google APIs or Facebook APIs onto other websites (from 'Like' and '+1' integration, to Google Analytics, to much more). If you so much as long on ONCE between not even clearing these cookies, this allows these companies to basically cross-track and log every one of these websites you visit. (In fact, with modern 'persistent cookie' (Google that) techniques even clearing your cookies is often not enough.) (If you use Google Chrome, and have the 'autocomplete' stuff filled in, even anything you type into the URL bar could potentially be tracked.)

LinkedIn is pretty much not embedded into anything, lol.

*Edit* Of course, not everyone cares if every online movement gets tracked and added to a huge history database associated with their actual name, but many people do, and it is definitely an understandable position. For those who do, you might be interested in the browser plugin Ghostery that shows you how much of this trackery is going on.

Agreed, most even think I'm odd for spending R110 per month on good newshost servers.

does anyone know when G+ will be made public. I've had an account for weeks now but if none of my friends are on it, then what's the point? I might as well just send them all an email.

You can just invite them. No need to wait for it to be made public.
