Why do people want 'real' name social networks? Don't they have a life in the 'real' world at home? Go outside and make friends with your neighbours or is that to much effort or do they like to hide behind a screen and keyboard.
You're saying people who use their real names are hiding behind their computers? It's the other way around mate
People who use pseudonyms in communities where one typically use a real name, are hiding behind their computers (unless they have a good reason for doing so).
All those words... yet not a single thought as to why google wants you to use your real name?
I wonder if ads targeted at you in person are a lot more valuable than those targeted at people who may happen to behave similar to you?
If google knows who you really are on plus...they know who you really are on gmail, blogger, money etc.
How will you feel when the google ads on random websites welcome you by name?
Seriously, can anyone explain this fear of Google etc showing targeted adverts instead of random ones. I actually find them useful
The only danger I can think of would be for someone that can't control their spending
You are missing the point. I don't use facebook to pick up chicks or go out. I use it to contact my friends etc eg arrange a get together at last minute (becos calling waste of time as their phones might be off). Social networking is (currently) an extension of our "real" social lives. Why do people want 'real' name social networks? Don't they have a life in the 'real' world at home? Sheesh, drives me nuts. Just because my sister asked me to look up something on her car doesn't mean that is one of my interests, but now Google thinks it is and changes my results for searches accordingly. Pffft.OMG NOT TEH EVIL ADVERTS!!!!!!!

That is a great idea! If they just make it cheap like even US$5 a year, they will be thwarting spammers, bots, trolls, etc. Regardless of whether they allow pseudonyms or not.I would happily belong to a "real" social network that is not commercially driven. And I would pay for the privilege of knowing that the people who have joined me on the network are the quality of people who are prepared to pay for the use of something that isn't besieged by spammers and kooks.
Alas, I am but a single rational voice in a largely irrational world.
