Really bad latency since just before Christmas

I'm curious is the latency supposed to be terrible during the day on a shaped account ?

I was trying to play some WoW earlier and my ms is around 1800-5000.

Trace to the EU login server has a bit of packet loss over the Telia network, but otherwise the hop latency looks about normal - around 450ms towards the auth servers.

I'm currently using Cybersmart 384/192 link.
 
make sure your blizzard downloader isnt downloading content

from what i have heard,Blizzard are trying to get rid of the weekly maintenance,so instead of once a week maintenance and the usuall small download for bug fixing they are implementing a download whilst you play theory.

in theory it works about 2 weeks before a patch comes out,so while your running around killing neffy youll be downloading bits of the new patch aswell as your usuall game bandwith.

which doesnt bold well for us peeps in SA,Cos we all know how lightning fast our connections are.
 
You can change the options of the Dowloader, download while you play, download after you exit etc. Actually mine can't even download...

yeah i know but Blizz want to sort the downtime without the weekly maintenance,they want to get rid of it full stop,So this means youll download a new patch over a 2 - 3 week period.So when patch day comes along in theory we all should have the new patch on our PC's already lined up for installing.

this will actually decrease your ms and clogging of the servers BUT This is direct'd more towards people in a first world country with your connections becos when your in the UK sitting with a 20 meg/s broadband line it wont make a difference to them.HOOOE NOOOES!!!!:D

what you are talking about (the patch being downloaded in the background has been in place for at least 6 months (probably a couple of months longer than that).

You can disable the background downloader and then just run it every now and then (when WoW is not running) to get the patch before patch day).

Talking about patch day I think today might be the day (for US realms).
 
Well, after loosing a not so small a piece of my sanity yesterday, I gave in and took R99 to the local axxess offices here in PE today and got me a 1 gig unshaped account. Instantly, going from 1800-4000 ping on my telskum acct to just 250-400 ms...

Now How the Bleepedy bleep bleep can the difference be so huge between accounts. Telkom is :
a. Got a huge contention ratio...
b. Shaping the bleep out of the normal accounts.
c. Both of above and the kitchen sink :S
 
speaking bout patches

new patch and new world event....:eek: the portal shall be opened soon!!
 
Lately i've been getting a great improvement in speed on a shaped 3gb TelkomSA account (384k Line). Where i used to cruise on about 800ms with 2 users, both on Vent in a 40 man raid, i'm now ambling along at roughly 600.

I've also experienced 300-400ms outdoors and +/-500 in IF.

Couple of other TelkomSA users have also commented on having a green latency bar for the first time ever. (Also on shaped accounts).

Something good is happening :)

PS. This is on US Stormrage

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if there was less shaping on Telkom accounts then there was on other ISP's.

DAMN YOU TELKOM!!
 
My Nephew reports that WOW is back to normal since yesterday morning. :)

You guys should check out the server Shattered Hand, it is the only server that gets a yellow bar the whole time you play while using a shaped account.

I have just started on it so im not sure what the peeps are like, but ill keep you posted.
 
The pings were much better last night, yeh. I was still getting between 800 - 1100ms pings though. Which is... allright, playable. Not great, but playable.
 
I logged in this morning and was getting around 500-600 on shaped so things seem back to normal.
 
Queing on Alonsus-EU is extreme.

It happened because Blizzard flagged Alonsus as the only recommended English realm for a bit and didnt increase the player cap. We have had guys disconnected during a ZG run and queue for 15 to 20 mins to get back in. After 7pm the queue is never less than 500. We hoping after the new realms open tomorrow that the situation will improve.

Latency is odd. For a long while it can be 230 to 300, even in populated zones. Then goes red.
 
I found you certainly went up the queue quicker if you had bought the game vs. using the trial. I wonder if buying the extension will make this faster still? :D
 
I have never ever in the year I have been playing WOW had to que to log into my server...NEVER!:eek: US-Twisting Nether...I wouldnt put up with it either...
 
hehehe, z3r0, everyone is trying to get on to the game now, so it's natural that there might be queues. You don't have to wait THAT long :)
