Hi guys,
ok this one is giving me too many hassles.
Its not malicious or anything terrible but what it does seem to do is disable Windows Firewall Sharing (ICS) and Norton Auto-Protect. i have scanned my full c drive with Norton,AVG, Avast and still nothing is picked up. Is there a freeware scanner i could try or can someone suggest a malware/adware product i can give a shot.I formatted my machine about a week ago and its obviously my data that is infected somehow.i did have a khq virus or worm that i managed to delete but the 'virus' i currently have is alot more difficult.
any suggestions please :o

Try microsoft security essentials. Do you mean it disables your windows firewall? ICS = internet connection sharing.

Well technically the Service is Windows Firewall and Internet services on some versions of windows,it handles both the firewall and ICS

Yes that is the one. i have googled the error and most of the fixes have not worked.

Try the free software Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware.
Will give them a shot thanks. i tried SuperAnti but did not do it in safe mode

An alternative way is to download one of those Anti Virus live Boot Disks, its pratically an antivirus on a disk thats boots the computer, and scans while windows isnt running so it can detect and remove virusses easily...

Easier way - stick in an USB stick, write a couple of files to it, hunt for the autorun.inf file in the root directory, trace the executabel file down, upload it to www.virustotal.com and there you'll be able to see which antivirus program will be able to detect that piece of junk.

Virustotal will let you see which antivirus package will be able to detect what.

Good luck.

Or, another alternative, boot from a Knoppix live CD, browse your hard drive for any suspicious files, and upload these to virustotal.com

You can try using an online virus scanner: http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner. I used that everytime my anti-virus can't see anything.
Or use HijackThis. Just go to a person who know how to read the HJT results and he could find the culprit.

It the AV isnt detecting anything it probably because you have a rootkit..which are usually quite hard to remove..

Try this - http://www.gmer.net/

thanks for all the tips guys...i will note them

AVIRA Antivirus did the trick though! it found and cleaned 3 files from the system folder and registry! after reboot my ICS service worked again fine and no issues since.
I highly recommend it if you havent tried it.awesome so far

Avast has a preboot scan function.
