So I just got my bill for this month and it turns out Eskom thinks we've used 7000 kWh this month compared to last month's 1000 kWh. Does anyone have any idea how I can dispute this and get the correct meter readings?

If anyone can point me to the right place to get this solved, I'd appreciate it.

1. What meter do you have?
2. Disputes normally will be at your local municipality
3. Do they do the meter reading manually or Remotely?
4. Previous reading should be on your previous bill this way you can calculate it your self

1. I don't know, I'm not clued up on this stuff.
3. The previous month was an estimation and this bill says "Actual reading"
4. How did I use 7000 kWh from a previous month of 1000 kWh and still the same people using the same amount

2. Not if he's a direct Eskom customer, which looks like he is.

Do you live in Dainfern? ;)

Why I hate these meter readings. Basically they estimated all the months until they took a proper reading and now you need to pay the shortfall.

So glad about prepaid meters.

4. You didn't use 1000, Eskom estimated your usage. Now that they've actually read the meter they are charging you for what you used. What did you think estimated meant?

Ok there is no need to be hostile. I am just trying to learn about what is happening. But why charge from a lower meter reading than what they charged for last month?

Here are the two meter readings.

estimated readings are usually lower since they are estimated. Still if you have previous invoices the reading should be there and can still be compared to see if actual reading is correct.

Also your bill is for 96 days other one was 32days

Is what it is unfortunately you paid less in the past and the correct amount is now due... I have the same happen on my water meter. Best to send in the correct amount but till then pay your due and change to prepaid so you not "surprised" in the future.

My best guess is that you are also paying your winter electricity now which is usually much higher due to geysers heaters running longer than normal.

73 kWh average a day...

What have you got running in your house
..
Someone is running (secretly) a mining rig :)

That is some serious power use, must be massive aircons pool pumps multiple geysers etc.

Perhaps some underfloor heating and additional heating in winter.

How do I go about converting to a prepaid meter? I'm in COJ.

Normally you should fill out a application at the municipality/service provider for that. The question will be will they approve it they are sometimes full of sheet or just lazy to do the work.

Sorry wasn't meant to be hostile. It looks like they didn't read your meter for some time.
Also to switch to prepaid you'll need to go to your local municipality office and apply, think it's R800 to apply, they come and do the install. It does work out far cheaper
