Reccomended Ram for AMD3 - Msi GD70

WHat ram would you guys reccomend for an AMD3 Phenom II x 4 965 / mobo: MSI 790FX GD70

both the mobo and cpu support up to 1333, so looking for 2 x 2gb kit of 1333 DDR3 or 1600, but preferably 1333.

this OCZ PC3-10666 Reaper HPC seems really good to be true, timings are 6-6-6-20 and its cheap (R1060) :

but Ocz isnt on the QVL list and may be compatiblity issues...
 
If the RAM has heatsinks on it and it's cheap enough for your budget and it's on the QVL, go ahead and buy it. RAM will be far from the bottleneck of your PC although having some nice fast ram is always good.
 
Don't get that RAM!! It is not true DDR3 RAM, but repurposed RAM that they are allowing higher voltages on to get to DDR3 spec. Notice how it's operating voltage is 1.75V? DDR3 is meant to run at 1.5V at stock settings. Go get RAM that runs at 1.5V and you'll be way better off.

I mean way better off as in it will actually work. I made the mistake of getting cheap DDR3 RAM that was rated to run 1333mhz at 1.65V (nevermind 1.75), and in the SPD it doesnt even mention settings for 1333mhz, highest settings in the SPD are for 1066mhz. It was possible to get it working at 1333, but if I used more than 60% of the RAM it would crash my system. Would only be stable at 1066. And thats only for 2x2gb, I actually wanted to run 4x2gb, but that wasn't even stable at 800mhz! Save yourself the headaches and getting proper DDR3 that runs at 1.5V
 
The RAM is fine, i'd get it. My OCZ Platinums are rated at 1600 CL7 1.65V and sure, in the memory tab in CPUZ the highest it says it can run at is 1200 BUT it runs 1600 CL7 really well and OCs quite nicely without any problems. Archer probably had a bad batch or something.

What exactly is the difference between ddr2 and ddr3? How is it they can repurpose ddr2 to ddr3?
 

So repurposed isn't the right word. But go look at the DDR3 specification, it clearly operates at 1.5V. Yes, you can overclock the RAM, and then it needs higher voltages, but at 1333mhz?? Why do they need to up the voltage to get 1333mhz which is relatively slow? Does the high voltage not ring any warning bells for you?
 
i7 needs to run at that voltage because of the integrated memory controller in the CPU (its very fussy), whereas AMD is much more flexible with the voltage it can run. But yes, you should never run higher than 1.65V on an i7... ever. Unless you want a fried CPU ;)

1.5v is the standard voltage for DDR3 (i.e. default voltage). The DDR3 standard sets no upper voltage limit. The effective limit is simply a result of the smaller process, which makes the ram more power efficient, meaning that too high voltages will simply fry them (all DDR3 must be able to survive at least 1.9v without frying, iirc). Increasing voltage to reduce latency is a common and reliable method of increasing performance for desktops. So if you want to know why that ram is rated at 1.75v, it is because it is cheap ram with tight timings. They are probably binned dimms that can handle the voltage well with heat sinks thrown on them.
