hi everyone

wonder if someone can help me

is my internet connection supposed to pause/dc while receiving a fax on my dsl line?

ADSL and voice operate independently on your line i.e. voice channel for phone/fax, and ADSL for data, therefore sharing the phone between your phone/fax and ADSL modem is a given. You will also need a filter installed to help seperate the channels.

If you do not yet have an ADSL micro-filter installed on all the analog devices (i.e. the fax machine) on your line then install one. If you do already have one, then it is time to replace it.

A more eloquent summation of the responses thusfar for you: It should only pause/disconnect if there isn't sufficient filtering on your Voice lines using a POTS filter which could be interfering with the DSL connection

confuscious says, the answer to that question is the inverse of the answer to the question "Do you have a micro-filter plugged into the fax line cable?".

thanks for the responses everyone

i do have pots filter on my main line and then it goes to my fax and one to the adsl

does this mean i need another one?or i need a new one?
the one i have is only 1 month old?

Yes you need a new one, the old one, she is popped.

i think i found the problem.theres another point which is connected to my cordless fone.when i activate the fax from the cordless than it dc the adsl
when i activate it from the fax itself it doesnt dc it
so my pots is working.i need another one
thanks alot everyone
appreciate it

I've had ADSL now for 2 months, with no filters on the line. It disconnected twice ever when I was on the phone, but I was using the laptop on wireless.
Once I was on the phone for about an hour and surfing the net at the same time without getting dc'ing

Wth, post your router make and model if you're not lying. Either your phones have a built-in filter or your router was well engineered to filter out the voice at baseband.

Yes its possible. Faxes interfere with the signal a lot more than voice does. Either way you will see a decline in speed due to lost packages and so forth.
