Hi Guys,

Calling all East London forumites...

How do I tune my TV in being in East London.

In Jozi I used the same television with Bunny ears, and later with a Ellies Ontop of your tv amplifier thingy....

Now in East London all the channels are poor quality with the bunny ears and the Ellies thingy.... I tried tuning the livingroom tv (Brand new DSign LCD) with the same result so I know the problem is not with my SET.:confused:

How do I get around this? I really do not want to buy a rooftop arial. Everyone else got dish and there is no existing arial on the home roof...

Please your help will be much appreciated....

look around at the average houses around what antenna's they got, and where it is looking towards.

Or go to a sabc radio stn website and look at their towers, will not know which is near you.

East London do have a lot of hills, so keep that in mind.

Their is a dstv option for something like R25 [or month] a year getting a few channels with free channels and digital reception.

I recommend getting decoder as well instead of roof-top aerial

Hi Vincent,

The package referred to above is called DSTV EasyView. It's worth considering, as a basic 1110 decoder is now R649 fully installed to 1 point.

It's either R20 / month or discounted to approx. R150 / year - I was on that package for a time, mainly for a bit of o/seas news - Al Jazeera English - and for CNBC Africa (Business News) which has o/seas feeds as well.
In PE I was quoted about R900 for a rooftop aerial (think 3 metres?) so DSTV is better as you'd get more channels & better pic quality (except when it storms) for less, to start with.

Best part to me is that if you get tired of a package you can up/down-grade without any notice, from one month to the next.

Consider Top-TV as well, similarly priced, but I think also give SABC channels in their basic package.

Retailers like Game have both lots of decoders & I've found their staff to be informative, but best to call relevant DSTV / Top-TV call centres to confirm 100%.

I used to use an aerial but then switched to EasyView - quality on sabc channels improved a bit, if I was you I would go for TopTV (value for money if you have a normal TV and not lcd or plasma)
I upgraded from easyview to dstv HD this month and am well impressed with the quality, I rarely move from the 4 HD channels and TriNations, Currie Cup is also supposed to be in HD over the coming months so I'm hooked for now.

I find if I watch the normal channels that are not HD on a LCD TV , I get a headache............good excuse to keep HD :)
