Rechargeable Light Bulbs

Ja, not impressed with these Smart Bulbs. Not sure about the upmarket ones that are double the price of the el cheapos. The trigger circuitry is very fickle. Some work in multi globe fittings some don't.
Some work in fan fittings some don't.
Can't get the one I have to work in the passage, which sort of makes sense for us in emergencies.

The one I opened up had the crappiest charging circuit of all time and that is the concern because if the battery is overcharging when all things are normal then what?

Much happier to have a light that can be deliberately switched on when required that I periodically charge under my control.

Yup - got two identical fittings, lounge and kitchen, lounge worked from the onset, kitchen now semi-working but wasnt. The problem is the expensive ones are just that... expensive.

They actually do. But I think the batteries are not very good quality. Could also be the circuit that charges the battery.
The batteries are pretty normal Li-ION single cells. The problems are two-fold, extremely crude charging circuits, and, very poor circuitry for detecting and completingvthe back up circuit.

I ordered three of these, but the 12w variety. They arrived today. One had the top popped off (not even glued), so I took pics. It's frightening that I'm expected to connect it to my AC system, but there you go:

Had no idea it would be that big. Probably a combination of 12v and 220v LEDs I'm guessing...
hmm doesn't look very smart does it now, hmm have had mine plugged in for a month and a bit so far.

Yes, most are two circuits, LEDs for normal use from 220 V and then the emergency circuit LEDs,

Has anyone come across anything similar for an LED light strip? i.e. something battery powered that kicks in and powers a strip of LED's on loss of AC power.

So I have the Digimark ones as well. After 2 hours, they are as good as dead, after 1 use... what are other's experiences??

Don't had one a month and seems okay

How long do they last at full brightness... and after 2 hours... how dim(witted) are they?
During LS they are never at full brightness, it's usable brightness, I don't know how long it lasts as it's in a bathroom we don't keep it on all the time.

Thanks. At least I dont feel alone.

mines last longer then 2 hours (used to last the full old 4.5 hour load shedding) - yes the brightness is a lot less then normal - but bright enough to use the bathroom
Yup that's what I needed it for, to use in the bathroom when there is load shedding at night :-)

Anybody here use them? What's the quality and reliability like?
Looking to get a few for the house, but it's difficult to judge quality online.
Cheapest i've seen is some Litemate ones at around R70 at takealot and there's Light Worx ones for twice the price.

My 1st experience with one was short lived, I think its lying somewhere in the garage ceiling.
