Please recommend an Android phone for R6,000 or less.
I don't do gaming or take many photos (shows my age, eh?).
It must be dual SIM.
Thanks in anticipation...

Samsung A15 is great value for spec.

+1 to all the other suggestions. I would go for a Samsung A model. Either look for a good deal on Amazon and import or wait for a sale from TA.
The chinesium phones mostly have bad UI or poorer support vs Samsung. They claim to have better cameras but the software and stabilisation etc holds them back at this price point.

Edit: The A35 is on special if you want but its R800 over budget but it does have 5G, Dual Sim and NFC.
Edit 2: Cheaper on Vodacom website. Only R200 over your budget.

Thanks for all this effort

Looking at it on paper, the Redmi Note 13 Pro is better than the Samsung A35.
- Screen resolution
- Marginally faster processor (depending on what you're doing)
- Higher likelihood of getting 8gb vs 6gb ram
- "Better camera" - on paper
- Has a headphone jack!
- Slightly larger battery with faster charging.

I've heard the Redmi comes with some bloatware (and even ads?). But I've experienced the Samsung with such bloatware as well.
Any user experiences with the Redmi?

Yes, I got the Note 11, there was bloat but I uninstalled all that I didnt need. And the ad's where in some system apps (music player, file manager), disabled them all, no ads now.

Would not recommend using fast charging (on any device). Use a old 1.5A charger and that's it. You will save the battery from degradation and sell it in a better condition later on.

I reckon the POCO X6 Pro is actually better than the Remi note 13 Pro. It comes with Android 14 and HyperOS.

Yes, Bloatware is a problem...

Is it available?

Know this is a bit old now, but remember the Redmi Note Pro 13 and Redmi Note Pro 13 LTE are not the same phone, the Takealot link is the LTE which is a nerfed version of the Pro 13.
Here is a screen shot for some of the differences

can only get those on a self import AFAIK - and Poco are now hit and miss IMHO cos Xiaomi gave Poco production over entirely to India (i'm not saying that the Indians are bad since i am of Indian descent myself) but it might not be of the same standard as it was in the past like when the Chinese were fully in charge of Poco and software development

But yep on paper definitely a fairly far superior phone if you can get one to here - importing from Amazon though will get you a 110 volt charger so getting the right charger plus a cover or two and some screen protectors as well then the Poco is far closer to R10k than R6K (especially when you include the shipping and VAT)

Unfortunately, yes. I decided to go for the Samsung A35

Right now, Takealot only has the 5G version in stock. But I remember the LTE version being available for R5,999.

that also states "supplier out of stock" - if they had stock i would have considered it instead of the redmi Note 13 pro plus 5G im planning on now

The LTE variant is not the same as the 5G, lower SOC, not as good a camera, not as good performance, currently the A35 would be a better option by far.
