I just need to safely shut down my PC when loadshedding hits, PC stats are in my sig, here are things i left out. 5xHard drives, 850Watt (I think i use just over half).

Can be offline/online whichever you think is best.

Thanks.

I'd agree with that -- something which has a USB port that can tell your PC to shut down -- you should only need a few minutes. The only issue is that obviously if you are shutting down/hibernating, those hard drives will be thrashing around, so you might be using the whole of your 850W PSU... maybe?!

Given that, and the pretty huge power factor - you're probably looking at a 1500VA to 2000VA thing.

Anyone else seen any good bargains for UPS's recently? I'm just looking for something to keep the router alive for a couple of hours.

(but struggling to monitor router power usage?! -- I'm assuming we're talking single digit watts?!)

Hi Rickster
For 5 7200rpm hard drives add extra 150W, but for shutdown it would need only 80W, as peak power is drawed during startup.
Any 600W off-line or line interractive UPS will work, but if you need protection, APC is recommended.
