I need a tim cook tablet but must have good battery life. I don't have any investments in apple so can't afford the ludicrous prices of the new tablets. What is still a good used tablet option and what can I expect in terms of battery life and app support / updates. Will it last at least another 3 - 5 years? What can I expect in terms of pricing? Must have bluetooth support.

Bonus if you post some links to the deals or product.

Apps I would like to use:

Please post some recommendations.

Check on Carbonite - I saw some pretty good deals on new-ish Eyepad Pros and such last night.

I still have a 7th gen (2019) iPad which works great. I probably wouldn't get anything older than that and I would NOT get the entry 32GB storage, get at least the 64GB variant. I made this mistake and it's a huge PITA and actually hinders using certain functionality (like offline downloads from Plex, Youtube, etc.).

As Paris would say, stop being poor and just buy a 10th gen iPad new..
But if you are poor then get a second hand 9th gen, for around R4k

They all have incredible battery life.

You’d be just fine on the normal iPad 9th or 10th generation.

I'm not familiar with Apple products myself. @bwana might be able to give some good advice on this.
Don't look at me for iPad advice. I'm using a 6th gen iPad my kid gave me when they upgraded.

It runs Netflix, and comes in handy as a second monitor, but I'm not a heavy user.

By the sounds of it I can use any TimPad and it should be fine. So then I just need to check battery health. Does the devices tell you how much life and hours is still left on the batteries?

What sort of budget are you looking at?
I would recommend an M1 iPad Air, latest design, top recent chip (should easily still get support for 3-5 years).

Really not much as I don't see much value in it besides wanting to run the software in the OP. So ideally as cheap as possible and why I am not even considering anything that is late models. If you tell me an iPad 4 will still have good battery life to last a couple of hours (3-5 hours) and run the apps in the OP I'll be more than happy.

Then the 9th gen iPad is likely the perfect one for you as it's one generation behind and should have plenty on the second hand market due to the R199 FNB deal a year or two ago.

You can get a free trial of Coconut Battery on a MacOS device, connect that to your iPad and it will tell you the state of health of the iOS/iPadOs device.

iPad Pro M2's have rather kuk battery life vs the 6th Gen Mini, from my own experience.

Not too high jack the thread but between a 6th Gen (2018) iPad Mini , iPad Mini M1 and 11" 2021 iPad Pro. Which would be the clear winner? Just need a media device for flights, and since the TV in the house is for the toddler now.

Wait for the new licensed supplier to get stock, you could pay anything between 10 to 25% less than what core is offering
