Afrihost is quality too, especially when considering that they have their own network and that they don't depend only on Seacom.Quality over quantity for me.

Good to hear. I've been doing that all daily for years without a hitch.
So have I. Been with Afrihost for years. Throughout that entire time there were maybe 2-3 weeks accumulatively that were hit and miss, and Blizzard games sometimes had high latency in the evenings.
And all that time, my uncapped account was unshaped and unthrottled. Only reason I'm capped now is because I'm changing to 100Mbps fibre (on Monday, finally) and uncapped doesn't go that high (and would be too expensive even if it did).
No no, Afrihost streaming was terrible for ages. Particularly on the Southern IPC.
Not for everyone. Plenty of us in the Afrihost feedback threads had no issues, me included.

I'm happy that some users were unaffected, and that you were one of them. I like to recommend ISPs where 99.9% of users have zero issues.

What Afrihost users are having issues? As I said, the network is rock solid.
I guess you wouldn't recommend Mweb then. They have more complaints in this forum than a lot of other ISPs.

Complaints about usage, because people who aren't paying enough are using too much, are irrelevant.
ISPs' AUPs are a thorn in the side to any heavy users, particularly those who don't want to pay for what they use.
MWEB's AUP is in fact generous compared to other ISPs', with great pricing too.
Only because people are idiots.
They buy standard uncapped when they should be paying for premium.
They are still people having issues with the service, therefore they are not irrelevant. Also, Mweb's services are not that generous, they are maybe on par with the industry average.
Uptime and constant performance for 99.9% of users, day and night, for many years, is also important.
Afrihost won ISP of the Year for 4 years running until their disaster last year. The network has more than recovered and is brilliant again.
Tell me how Mweb does for the awards every year?
And how did Mweb perform during the Seacom issues? Oh right, their network broke. I wasn't even aware of the Seacom situation until I saw it on MyBB.
I don't seem to be having any luck at all with my selection ISPs.
- I was using Telkom, but their pitiful soft cap had my service throttled into the ground for 3 weeks of every month.
- Then I moved to Axxess who couldn't provide a quality of service that I found to be acceptable - the connection was just slow and despite multiple tickets to resolve the issue, it never seemed to go away.
- Then I moved to MWeb which was definitely decent and I was happy with them, but I saw and took what looked like a better offer
- So I moved to OpenWeb (upgraded from 4mbps to 10mbps) who shaped my connection bad enough as to be harmful to my small business during daylight hours
- Lastly, I've moved now to Nexus and while I'm happy with the service, I'm very disappointed with pretty much everything else, especially their billing policies.
Nexus flat out insists on debit order or credit card payment and won't accept EFT unless such payment is made before the 25th of each month. They recommended I basically pay double for 1 month in order to put my account in a credit and then I'm always just paying to "refresh" that credit but this doesn't work for me as I couldn't possibly manage a double payment at this time. Neither do debit order or credit card debits but that leaves me all without any options.
My situation currently is that due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm unable to satisfy the debit order payment, but I can pay R300 in time for the debit order and then I can make up the extra R200 afterwards. Nexus has informed me that they can't help me in any way at all and that I'm just going to have to sit and watch the debit order bounce at which point, the bank will nail me for the bounce and Nexus will also charge me 5% or R50 (whichever is larger) for ... reasons?
In light of this, I'm looking for another ISP (again) who might be more willing to help me continue to use their service.
Here are my requirements:
- 4mbps/10mbps line speed
- At least a soft cap of 400GB
- Flexible billing which allows me to pay however I want
- Budget of ~R1000/month (all inclusive)
Given my history with them, I'd love to go onto MWeb's 10mbps Premium package with line rental but at ~R1300 that's a bit heavy on my budget for now. Obviously as business picks up, I can make that move, but for now, I'd be hard pressed to manage it.
EDIT: I've just been informed that despite my advanced notice that I'm not going to be able to satisfy the debit order, Nexus ISP has submitted it to the bank anyway and when it bounces they're going to suspend my service. Really glad I didn't cancel my MWeb (just downgraded it) so I can use that as a backup.
