Hi all,

I'm trying to find a decent TV to buy that isn't going to cost me a fortune :) I've been looking at the up to R10 000 range and the best I can find was this Samsung

http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UA46F5500AKXXA

I'm more or less looking for a 46" LED and going to be using it for Series/Movies/Gaming.

The main reason I'm posting this thread though is because I'm trying to find perhaps a better model but without the Smart functionality and without 3D for the same price. Any ideas? :)

Thanks in advance,
S1ght

I got the series 5 samsung 26" led recently. very happy with it so far.

The picture didn`t look as oversaturated as the others on display.

Dion wired has a 50" LED for 7999 this weekend
no smart, no 3d
no idea if its a good set...

I'd go for a samsung, but the 3D and "Smart" isn't really that awesome unless you buy/watch 3D movies a lot (the 3D is much more awesome on the Samsung than it is anywhere else, but I rarely use it now)

Also if you do go "Smart" make sure the thing can connect to the internet/browse it/use apps. There are some "smart" (dumb) TV's out there that you can barely call a smart TV (I have one, lol)

Ag these days they almost throw in smart and 3D for free when you go over a certain size.

I'm helping someone find a 46" TV myself and my options are down to:
1) Samsung 46F5000 - R7999 at HiFi Corp.
2) Samsung 46EH6030 - R7999 at Game.

Both are 3D though. I'm also looking for a standard model if possible. The one at Game is a model older but 200hz and the one at HiFi is newer a model but only 100hz.

Definitely game the Game one. For two reasons.
1. It's not Hifi Corp
2. It's 200mhz

Thanks for the help guys :) I'm not too phased if it comes with 3D but more than often those things are what push up the price >.< Smart functionality for me isn't important either because I have my HTPC :) So looks like this weekend there are a few specials?

I have to come to HIFI corps defense here lol
I was the same and would only use them as a last resort
But since they changed their stores/branding etc I think they have also tried improving service levels

I managed to get almost 40% off a TV set by using their price beat policy, and didnt have to put up too much fuss in getting it
The TV wouldnt work when I got home. They collected and replaced the TV the next day, no questions asked.
So I got a good deal and good service.

This was the Centurion branch btw

I liked that Sony as well. I tried to go and looked at it in store but the Samsung's just seem much more vibrant, although this sometimes means over saturation. The other issue was they had the Sony set up on the other side of the store compared to the Samsung, need to see if I can get them to set them up next to each other and then let me play with the settings a lil' :)

Edit:
What you guys think of this special from dionwired?

Only slightly over my budget but it'd be 1 series up from the 1 I was looking at.

Nice.

dont you get like cmr as well ...so maybe the game is advertised as 200cmr and is only 100hz

Long as it's above 60hz.

Never judge TVs by in store lighting.

Hmm...So how do you approach this then? Buy it and return it with 14 days if you don't like it?

Go view it at a shop that has a darkened TV area would be one option.

Prepare to walk out with plasma.
Just be careful when buying a Plasma TV. Some have noticeable phosphor lag and can be very irritating when playing games. If you don't notice any rainbows on single chip DLP projectors then you don't have to worry about the phosphor lag on Plasma TVs.
