Well, we've established I'm not a hard-core gamer. I'm happy with my R600 graphics card.

I am into sound though.

I'm looking for PC speakers that have enough boom, so when I shoot someone, I feel it...and for the occasional itunes listening. It's not my primary sound source, so they don't have to be top of the line (Lexicon etc). I just want something a little nicer than you're average joe PC speakers.

At the moment, I'm looking at the Logitech Z-2300. 200W RMS, TXH Certified, 2.1.

Any other suggestions?

Oh yes...I should upgrade my sound card too...

I have the X-230s and they kinda suck - too much bass (even tho the woofer's turned all the way down).

The Z2300s are awesome.

Knowing what I do now, I would have spent double and got the Z2300s.

If you upgrade your soundcard aswell go for a XFi, they are awesome.

I used to have a nice little setup.

a 1970s Pioneer valve amp
and a 1979 Denon amp
running 4.0 spaker setup with me ol' SB live value and lovely, large floor standing spakers.

pitty the valve amp died before Doom 3 came out :(

I have the Altech Lansing MX5021's, which are also THX-certified 2.1's and cost about the same as the Z-2300's. IMO they're better than the Z-2300's, because these come with 2 mid-range drivers and a tweeter in each satellite (that's 3 speakers per satellite!).

(Front Speakers) 20 Watts/channel @ 6 ohms @10% THD @ 150 - 18000 Hz
(Subwoofer) 50 Watts @ 4 ohms @ 10% THD @ 40- 150 Hz

Both the Z2300 and Z5500 are very nice speakers. I used to have a 5.1 setup and got rid of it. It's too difficult to place the rear speakers properly. Went back to 2.1. I'm very happy. Do miss proper 5.1 sometimes when I'm watching a good movie. I'm saving for a new house so I can get sound fitted without asking if I may drill holes in the rental to fit speakers. LOL

I have a set of Logitech Z-4's and they do the trick for me. Yes they are not as potent as the Z-2300's but at the end of the day, they cost half the amount. Quite decent value for money if you ask me...

The ATi R600 is the next generation ATi gpu, not available yet.

When you said you have a R600 (as in 600 rand) graphics card he thought you had a ATi R600 :p

Where does one get the Altec Lansing MX5021's from? I wouldn't mind checking them out before running to get the logitech's?

Sunbird...you have 2 pm's now. :-)

Oh haha :-) That's funny.

On a different note: I've read right now in different threads here that the z-2300 aren't good for music? None of the threads say why though? As much as I play some games...music is very important!

I got mine from buycomputers.co.za, but most shops seem to have them, they are available in SA.

Or they were a few months ago.. try looking around on some online retailers.

Well.. not like I'd know technically why.. but Logitech focuses mostly on the bass (sub) with their speakers, I'm sure they try to get some clarity, but those speakers will mostly impress you because of the bass.

The Altecs on the other hand are made for music. The sub is discreet, and good for music, not rap or booming bass. The satellites just have great clarity and a lot of high end. Its just how they are made I guess.. Alte cmake it pretty obvious the speakers are for music, and movies too I guess. .they are THX.

If you can get to a shop that has them you could maby listen to them, but I couldn't actually find them anywhere on display..
