Recommendation required for Laptop Repair

Thank you @UB40

I will definitely be avoiding irepairer based on this - not responding to email is a massive red flag

If its just a battery you should be able to remove the old battery and power it up on a direct cable. Otherwise I don't know CT but Supima technologies up in Randburg gave me great service. Perhaps worth the courier cost if you don't find anyone decent in CT?

Which model? I repaired the switch on two HP's from that era, they seem prone to issues. Fairly easy to do once you have it pulled apart.

Sister's HP laptop won't power on (it's about 6 years old) - I suspect battery is toast - I haven't had a look at it yet.

In case I can't do anything with it, has anyone had experience with an outfit called irepairer? (nothing on hellopeter)

Based in Cape Town area. - https://www.irepairer.co.za/laptop-repair-specialists-cape-town/#
you can try Partserve, They are the official repair centre for all the major brands. they are very slow

Probably not just the battery, since laptops will start without a working battery if they are plugged in. If its completely dead, its likely the power circuit on the motherboard that has failed, in which case you are looking at the motherboard. if your lucky (and given its an HP, you wont be), it has a separate power board.

If you post the model number and serial number, you can look up

but expect it to be pricey. probably not worth it on a 6 year old HP. you can probably buy a refurbish laptop that is newer for less money than the repair.
