Anyone have any recommendations for a TV (LCD/LED) with no tuner installed?

Public Display Panels is what you are looking for.

The moment it's called a TV it has a tuner.

Their prices are ridiculous to be honest. Better to just buy a TV and pay for the TV license.

That puts you in commercial-grade monitor-land, the LG M4210LCBA being typical. It does what you expect (and *does* have speakers (2x 10W (claimed)); that said, there is an optional speaker set. If it matters/helps you DO get a panel that's [-]good[/-] rated for 24/7 operation. There's a 47" model too, but appears not to have integrated speakers, so there's that.

1. Save R300/year on TV license
2. Spend many thousands extra on monitor without tuner.
3. ????
4. Profit!!!!

So what's the (lifetime, because it really is with them) value of them getting their hooks into you and then never ...NEVER getting rid of them again, even after you're dead?

Depends on how long you live. Say you live to 80. Buy your first TV licence at 20 (it would normally be later than that but whatevz).

So 60 years x R 300 in todays terms, about R18 grand. Less than you'd spend on one of these monitors. Or let's say each one is about 9000 more expensive than a regular TV, so at about 2 upgrades you'd break even. And you go through a LOT more than 2 TV's in 50 years.

Yip, want to ditch the tv licence

Good luck with that. They won't leave you alone.
The red tape and rigmarole involved in de-registering and proving that you are "compliant" every single year is far more hassle than just paying the damn license.
I see my TV License as a License to buy a new TV... that is all.
You have to get one of their "inspectors" in to your house to come and check that you are not capable of receiving any kind of signal.
And you have to pay him to do that.
And the fee to pay him to do that is more than the TV License.
Forget it.

I see my tv licence as a way to pay for breakfast radio.

Ship it off to a friend for the visit.

Its R250 and you will be surprised how useful the thing can be (proof of address etc)

The radio stations get money from this so whatever... just pay it and get it over with.
