Record iPhone 4S sales

Record iPhone 4S sales for Apple

Apple sold a record 1 million units of its new iPhone 4S on the first day the device went on sale, the company said Monday.

So much for hard times and the fall of the dollar.
Then again, don't we have exactly this kind of consumerism to blame?

On the positive side, the iPhone has certainly woken the market up and reminded the competition of what people actually want*, not all bad.

*that bit is debatable. I recall a thread by Bwana discussing how photographers sell themselves short. iPhone is a lesson to all, that people sometimes value something directly in proportion to the money they spend on it :D

In someways being SA is awesome.. we don't get the phone for a 1-3 months while see how markets respond.

To buy or not to buy.. that's the question when you know the iPhone5 release is lurking with possible release in 9-12months? BB might be working on a BBM for other devices but i think if they do that, that's curtains for their devices as a few people i chat to seem hooked on it. Everyone seems to develop apps for it in the US market and altho EMEA is a big region.. the US is the key to watch.. think i will upgrade to one.. maybe..

BTW whats up with the 12 month release schedule companies are now pushing? I mean it use to be 24 month but seems to have sped up. You see this in vehicle sales too, instead of the normal 24-36 month cycle changes companies seem to be change things here and there ever 12-18 months heck even pushing out a new model change. Recession is driving them make things change often like this to squash thoughts of 2nd hand versions?:erm:

The majority of the local iPhone contracts are no different to the US (i.e. 2 years, with penalties for earlier upgrades). Under these conditions why would anyone locked in an existing iPhone 4 contract want to upgrade?

Surely you can agree the iPhone 4S, similarly to the previous 3GS is targeted primarily to new customers...

What's going to be interesting is to watch for market adoption shift in light of the iPhone 3GS (free on contract?) and iPhone 4 (cheaper contract?), ...

Wow, impressive. So much for all the analysts comments about a disappointing device.

This is a big part of what's wrong with the world today. Bright lights and flashy stuff. People on the spend, with none of it having any lasting investment value... tech and cars and clothing.
