Do I need a court order to obtain a recorded conversation that could impact my entire life, what do I need?

More context would be helpful.

How to retrieve a recorded conversation from my service provider

How can I go about in obtaining a recording from my service provider that could have a huge impact on my life? A court order?

19 Years ago I bought a property for R460 000. One of the partner was bought out for the same amount she had put in. A contact was drawn up between our lawyers and when me dad died in 1999, and she was called in to sign paper at the transfer lawyers, she denied such a contract ever existed. My lawyer only keeps copies for 10 years and so did hers. I received a call not long ago where she asked me to put on paper what I think she owes (her very first admission that she is liable). She has never paid anything towards the upkeep of repayment of the property that is now on sale for R8 million. If I get this recording, my lawyers could do some simple calculations to what her liabilities would be.

I have personally dealt with a similar situation. Service providers don't record all calls, they do however keep track of all calls. You will be able to prove that she DID call you, but not however WHAT she actually said.

They don't keep records , especially not ones made so long ago. As you mention, they have the records but not the recording itself.

Your chances are extremely slim.

You'll be wasting your money if you attempt the process of obtaining a court order to subpoena the call records, as they do not record all voice calls all the time.

Imagine your service providers storage needs to save 10+ years of calls .

i have spoken to my service provider and they actually have recordings

No. The dumb agent you phoned at your service provider was referring to the fact that you speaking to the dumb agent was being recorded.

A mate of mines insurance requested hes call logs of the day of hes accident as there were no witnesses to hes accident.
He showed me the papers he signed. In it he could tick calllogs or logs plus voice. There was a charge for the records not sure how much.
The logs could prove who had made calls to and the towers recorded hes approximate position. They paid him out.
From seeing those documents I know they record your voice.
The provider was vodacom. He didnt have to go to court to get it.
