ive setup 5 analog cameras around my office. i now need a way to convert the analog signals so they can be sent over ethernet cables. is there a divice i can use that takes in av cables and spits out utp ????

I have done something similiar at home - 4 Analogue cameras setup around outside. They all have RCA or BNC connectors on - which I have made little adapters for, and run the Video, and Power across long lengths of Ethernet cable (30m in one case) and then split back to RCA/BNC and Power at the other end.

All four cams are plugged into TV Tuner cards (U could use a proper Camera Card with multiple inputs) and then I run Zoneminder (Linux Application) for motion sensing, recording etc.

So this is not exactly converting analogue into UTP or IP, but all the cameras are accessible from Zoneminder as if they were IP Cams.

Clever blokes. CCTV for home is essential these days.
Maybe for you but the day I'm forced to surround myself with high walls, cctv, barbed wire and/or electric fencing I'm outta here.

That's no way to live. :o

Sad I know, but it has come to that a while ago already. :(

Well fortunately it's not like that everywhere. I just took a quick drive and only saw one house with electric fencing and zero barbed wire. :)

Dunno about you but I've accidentally stung myself with the neighbours electrfied fence while pruning some bushes - hardly noticed it. I reckon it's a gimmick and the serious burglar will just throw a plastic bag over the fence and climb over. No worries. Still the guys who install the stuff have to make a living somehow.... :).
