I think South Africa is overdue for a site, with collections of recordings of conversations with Telkom employee's.

Given the huge quantities of reported calls and problems that forumites have with Telkom service, can someone suggest a simple easy-to-attach recording device for the standard landline telephone, so that forumites can begin recording their Telkom calls - perhaps directly onto their PC's.

The entertainment (and educational) value of lots of online edited-down examples of what these employees sound like, and behave like - when dealing with customers, I think, could be a great addition to the growing documentation of dissent against Telkom in general, if not also amazingly interesting examples of what forumites are having to put up with.

Its one thing to report on some ignorant or rude employee - its another gloriously more fun thing, to have a 300k mp3 soundfile of the event - for others to laugh at.

(Imagine if this had been being done systematically over the last year or two, the size and quantity of the 'Telkom Employee Sound Files Site' by now.)

So - pointers to simple and cheap recording equipment?

What I did was buy a speaker phone and connect wires (with some swithcing) to the speaker and microphone. That would be cheapest.

You can also try spyworld ( i think that's the name) in bruma.

As far as legal goes, as long as you tell the 'person' you are talking to that the conversation is being recorder (for his or her protection ofcourse), you should be ok.

LG i agree with you....... To hell with telling them that the conversation is recorded. Just record and post on a website similar to hellkom or on hellkom...

What they gonna do?? Sue you?? They already lost their first case or should i say withdrew it. I'll even get Mike Niacker to to do a bit on Telkom!

I haven't phone Telkom in ages because I don't want to get my hopes up thinking that they'll be able to help me(see signature), but do they actually tell you that they are recording the phone call? I can't remember if they actually record calls.

mabye a wiki - I have always thought that the existing websites do not do enough to actually educate people - rather they move to solve the problem - if there was a website which everyone could go to - sort of as a hub of information then I think we could make our cause more efficent

most call centres do tell you they are recording and state the reasons - necessary under the regulation of interception of communications act (aka the new interception act) - part of the fun would be capturing their reaction to having the same read right back to them

i would also love to have some recordings of what people say when they are on hold listening to the tlkm *music* or automated recording

ROFL now that would be interesting. I'm sure Telscum won't use it for marketing :D

A fantastic idea. I'm surprised nobody has thought of it before. (Butts head against wall in frustration) ;) This will bring conclusive proof of Telkom's inefficiencies and the way they treat their customers. Edit out the personal details and have the results broadcast as a first round in a media war with the beast. Most people seem to believe that Telkom is providing an adequate service; that is the perception that needs to be addressed and this is a great way to start.

Peace.

I did it once - I told them I am recording the conversation for my own records as well (even though I didn't). Let me tell you, they have a HUGE fright when they hear that coming back at them, and you get a lot better performance!! This is going to be a new tactic from now on...

If we can organise a site like this, it would be fantastic.
