Hi guys,

I recently got TopTv (loving it so far - Discovery Science FTW!) and since there's no PVR, I'm looking for a clever solution for recording shows. I started looking for HDD recorders, but I'm really struggling to find any that are (a) in stock and (b) reasonably priced.

I also considered a TV Tuner card and then running the decoder into the PC and from the PC out to the TV, but the confusion of cabling and IR repeaters that would be necessary is a bit daunting.

Does anyone have any good ideas or devices I can look for? I was hoping just to find a cool media set top box that could record to HDD, but I can't seem to find anything really interesting.

There are a few set top boxes around but you will also have to bypass macrovision.

I used an old tvcard and old pc running through an old vhs next to the tv for a while but found that setting the bloody thing up to do a recording was way to much effort for me. (set up on tv then set up on pc).

Does the signal coming OUT of the TopTV decoder still have macrovision signals on it? How likely is it that the salespeople at places like Choas Computer be able to tell me which tuner card can ignore Macrovision and which can't? :o

recording with a vcr in between seems to work, you can also make a macrovision bypasser or buy one.

I could only record via AV as I have lost my vcr's remote and can't tune the rf in on the vcr without it.

I was told that an old Mnet decoder can be used to strip out the macrovision signal.
