i have some records that have been spoilt (the covers/sleeves through water damage) and i was thinking about what i should do with them now. should i copy them to cd and how can i make the cover image on the cd, do you need a special programme and special colour printer?

any advice is welcome.

thanks.

Okay well now i am gonna lose business but ya...

What i do is use a turntable with a program called spin it again then play the whole record get all the names etc for the tracks, scan in the cover of the record (in 4 pieces) and reattach it.

then put it in a little cd case and voila thats Record to CD.

Why would you need a special colour printer?

If you want to print on the cd you can use CD labels, i use the tower cd labels from makro...

Been doing this for years (will do it for you too if you cross my palm ;)). It's not trivial to transfer the tracks to CD, especially if you want to try and get rid of some of the noise. I've tried many different types of software, but the one I've always fallen back on is DC-Art (Diamond Cut Audio Restoration Tools).

For making covers, I follow a similar path to that given by Peder.

Just remember, to do a decent job takes plenty of time, and to really do it properly, you're going to have do devise a way to clean the LPs too (especially as yours have been exposed to water).

It's prolly cheaper to try and find commercial versions of the CDs and dump the LPs :(

A few printers can print directly on a CD for example the canon Ip4200 and some others. You need a printable CD for that. For a printer that does not have the special feature you could buy self glue lables for example BiC at trade centre (well priced) and use software like "Assistente Pimaco Mais" (Bic) or other lablel software.

For recording the records to CD you have to have a decent soundcard and some software/electronics. Just google

ha ha ok thanks guys it sounds easier just for you peder to do it for me but anyway...
i did cut a cd from a record about a year ago but it was a very feeble attempt by me but i just wanted to test the waters.

how do you print those covers thru nero or a printer if the are circular shaped, i've seen it once or twice on peoples discs but cannot figure out how its done.

I have a template for my image editor which I modify for the different label brands. Remember too, that each printer has a different (0,0) offset, and that creates hell trying to get the damn things aligned.

I use a programme called Audacity (it's free).
Thanks for that, Audacity is not one I've tried. I see there's a Linux version and if it's good enough, I will be able to dump Windows almost comletely (apart from a couple of games).
