The Basic Education minister, Angie Motshekga, recently announced several changes planned for schools including the reduction of social distancing requirements from 1.5m to 1m.

Do you think is is wise? Or could this possibly fuel further outbreaks?

1.5m is just an arbitrary number so it doesn't even matter. It's from the early days when we didn't understand how Covid spread.

1m is exactly the same thing. Irrelevant.
Exactly a lot of the procedures being done were from the early days that just seemed to stick.

Do they all still get up and go to different classes every bell ring all the time? Teachers should just be the one's rotating

Wasn't there a 15 minute "rule"? If you came into contact with an infected person and you were with them for more than 15 minutes then masks and 2m distance meant nothing?

How are they going to accomplish this when classes in government schools are over crowded 35+ in a class.

What I see happening at our kids school leads me to believe they aren’t really truly following guidelines anyway. More about containment for possible infections than anything else. Zero concern on my part.
Let the kids live. Let us all live actually.

I said yes because its mostly pointless. It just creates anxiety amongst the kids.

They just need to isolate the kids as needed. If one gets sick, they stay at home. If more gets sick then you send the whole class home, then the grade etc

If distance is so negligible a factor as you suggest, why not make it 50cm or even 10cm then?

Well, since there's NO social distancing inside a plane (or Taxi) like there is outside a plane (or taxi), why must schools be different ... make it 0 Meters like it is inside planes ... problem solved.

The sooner we switch our views from a narrow short term view, chasing waves with lockdowns that causes waves, the sooner we can get busy living again.

This virus will be with us just like others such as flu, herpes, etc. Just like you get your yearly flu shot containing the top 3 strains of the last season, so too you will get your covid shot - maybe the will combine the two.

Forget this farce of social distancing, masks, over sanitizing the next super bugs into existence. This virus is here to stay and you can make as big or as little a fuss about it as you like - does not change it.
