Reform the Commandos?

I come from a strong farming community and theres talk of reforming some of the commandos in the case of a feared genocide. Anyone else hearing this?
 
No but its a bloody good idea. Never should have been disbanded or incorporated in our police the first place.
 
Are the commandos of any specific political party or generally just farmer-related peoples?

similiar to WWII British Home Guard. Was SADF controlled.

Disbanded a few years ago.

there was a big discussion about this on kyknet the other day, the commandos imho is a good thing, we need specialised divisions to control crime properly.
 
Do farmers still get R4/R5 rifles?

The commandos were a good thing but as with other good things the current government had it's own ideas.

Commando's were instituted for self protection in the more remote regions of South Africa where there were no Police presence etc. It is just a group of people taught how to handle weapons and how to deal with certain violent actions as they occur. Sortof survival guide if you will.

um, isn't it illegal to create paramilitary or mercenary forces in South Africa independently of the police/army?

I agree it is probably a safe idea, as long as these guys are not cowboy hotshots pitching for a fight.

But the moment you try to being forming them you are going to run foul of the law.

Are you thinking about the Scots in their kilts?

Guys this would be a terrible idea..... the last thing i want is for the government to have an excuse to use the military against citizens it deems as possible threats. Besides the government want to remove private arms not encourage it.

No, it will be seen as privately trained army and could open up a huge can of worms.... political parties should not have militant sections and i'm afraid this may turn into something like that.

You hit the nail on the spot.... untrained and disarmed citizens are alot easier to kill......

um.. its not political...

I think the military needs to be scared of the farmers. By the way the old green gun license is still valid.
