Refresh iTunes Library on Windows?

Could some tell me how to refresh the iTunes music library on Windows. I deleted some files from the music folder but iTunes retains the dead links to them in the music library.

Several pages of Google search results did not bring up anything useful.

File - Add Folder to Library

then point it to your iTunes music folder

Let it rescan everything.

Make sure you have Keep itunes media folder organized under preferences otherwise you might get duplicates.

I tried that. It added the new files but unfortunately kept the dead links for the files that had been removed.
